Clearwater, B.C. - On Aug 1, around 6:45 pm Clearwater RCMP were contacted through BC Ambulance after a caller requested assistance for his mother who had been on fire.
Police attended and found a 78 year old woman had sustained severe burns to her body. She was treated by police and BC Ambulance and transported to Clearwater Hospital. The victim’s son was arrested and taken into custody.

Even though the fire was out by the time police arrived the Blackpool (near Clearwater) Fire Dept attended and assisted. In addition to the woman being on fire a small dog was also doused with gas and set on fire. The dog sustained considerable injury and had to be put down.

The 51 year old male went before a Justice of the Peace on Aug 2 facing charges of attempted murder and cruelty to animals. He is being held in custody and will appear in Kamloops Court Tuesday Aug 5.

The woman is currently in critical condition at Vancouver General Hospital. She has 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 40-50% of her body.

What a dastardly senseless act. Will the punishment be made to fit the crime?

I hope she gets well soon. Some children are not worth having given birth to...sadly enough.
Ya! Too bad abortion wasn't retroactive.
WTF??? So they are going to set him on fire right??? They should. And thieves, we should steal their shit. Rapists get it back too. Ya see where I'm going with this right :)
Sign of the times... No pill will cure this guy!
OMG that is a horrifying story. That poor woman, I hope she recovers fully and some other (sane) family to be there for her.
What a complete PYHSCO!!!!! The bastard will probably get house arrest and probation or something as equally lame! I agree w/ burerluver, douse him w/ gas and torch the freak!
Hang him until he is dead.
With the exception of one entry above, I feel like I just read a survey result from an 1815, cattle rustlin' town newspaper.

How about this...we hear the whole story and then do something civil like, put the offender in a cell or a secure psych hospital. Then evaluate public safety prior to his release after his sentence or psych evaluation is complete.

I think the justice system does that every day in thousands of cases. I hope none of you ever skip out on jury duty.

There are some crimes that locking him up and throwing away the key is not enough. In Canada no one will ever get locked up for life. 25 years with time of for good behavior ect. ect. means that the "offender" will or could be out in 15 or less if the attending "shrink" thinks the "offender" is cured. If he is proved guilty hang him or some other form of capital punishment. I think that in some of these cases [ boy draged too death cause some one didn't want to pay for gas ect.] we need the death penalty back.

And you think that course of action is the right way to go with the scum of this earth?
You are very much outnumbered in your opinion.
