Prince George, B.C.-  It is B.C. Day and that  means we are officially celebrating the Province's 150th birthday!

It  was actually August 2nd 1858 that  the mainland was declared  a Crown Colony to be known as British Columbia, but  the first Monday in August has become the day for celebration.

Premier Gordon Campbell says this  year, B.C. is marking a milestone "150 years of achievement, cultural diversity and community strength since the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia in 1858. The people and events that have shaped British Columbia are unlike any other, and have contributed so much to our nation and our world. I proudly join all British Columbians in pausing to take stock of the challenges and triumphs of our history, and in looking forward to our future.

The Premier says this is a time to reflect on the strengths of B.C. "The blending of traditions and cultures in an exceptional and evolving multi-cultural mosaic, including our First Nations’ heritages, has helped create this unique society. We are all fortunate to live in British Columbia, a place of natural riches and beauty, of prosperity and of opportunity."

You can celebrate B.C. Day with some events in the Prince George Region.

  • There are celebrations planned  for Fort George Park with the Outreach Art group
  • At Exploration Place there is a flying squirrel presentation  ( 1.5 hour show)  one show only, clost is  $26.95 per family of four,  or,  senior/student 6.95, child 5.95,  adult 8.95  only 90 tickets per show available.
  • Homestead Days at the Huble farm north of Prince George,  Pancake breakfast starts at 10:00 a.m.

Whatever your plans are for the day,  drive  carefully. The RCMP have already  made it very clear they are on the road in increased numbers looking for speeders and aggressive  drivers.

flying squirrel presentation for BC day...wow

p.s I thought we banned this type of animal exploitation.
Worse they are charging for it...and yet the BC Govt is spenind a small fortune in Victoria...stuff all free to residents...
I guess we really dont' count
150 year birthday, you would think the Libs. would be spending money around the province. Waving thier colours. Only money spent in Vic. Could it be BC might be running out of money. Naw can't be, we are the libs. Some how they will blame the NDP, even though the NDP haven't been around for years.
I hear the "circus" was in town and there was no animals other than farm animals. All the usual circus animals like an elephant are banned from the city.

So I was wondering why the circus doesn't set up in places like Pine View or Beaverly or Hixon where the circus can put on a better show?
I wonder where B.C. will be in another 100 years, will most of the province be a desert because of the damage we have done to the environment? I mean like clearcut logging, power dams, mine tailings, pollution discharge into our rivers and into our air. Hope for the best, and pray that we don't have to sell (give?) our water to the Yankees.
