The negotiations continue between Northern Sport Centre Ltd and their preferred proponent, the Northern Sport Centre Consortium, for the design , construction and operation of the Centre which will be located at UNBC.
"Talks continue and we hope to have everything finalized by the middle of December" says Northern Sport Centre Ltd Chair, Cliff Dezell.
The consortium which is the preferred proponent for the project is made up of :
Giffels Design-Build Inc. - the largest turnkey provider of sporting facilities in Canada
Chernoff Thompson Architects - a B.C. based architectural firm with an office in P.G. and lots of experience with UNBC
NORR Limited- architectural and engineering firm
Leisure Recreation Group - which operates 19 leisure centres in B.C. and Alberta
Western Industrial Contractors Ltd - based in Prince George one of the largest general contractors in B.C.
There is still a push on to raise funds for the facility.
Last week, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George tabled a suggestion that it apply to the Northern Development Initiative Trust for a $1 million dollar, interest free, repayable grant, which the Regional District would contribute to the project. The members of the Board want more information before they proceed with a vote on that idea.
The total cost of the project is $32 million dollars.
