Prince George, B.C.- The Cameron Street bridge will be open for traffic by the end of this year.
The contractor, IDL Projects has signed an agreement that the bridge will be completed no later than December 31st of 2008.
Manager of General Operations for the City, Bob Radloff says there is always a chance the bridge could be completed sooner “If we get ideal conditions we’ll do better than that date, if there’s adverse conditions, we don’t know for sure what effect that might have, but it might take them to December 31st to complete.”
Radloff says the project is in the process of lifting the existing bridge so repairs can be made to the concrete pile caps, then steel beams will be slid underneath the wooden structure and the beams will be used to move the old wooden structure off the site.
At the North end of the bridge, crews are installing storm sewers and utilities;, while on the South side, work is being done on moving hydrants, hydro and telephone lines.
Once the steel beams are in place, then the construction of the concrete deck and all the superstructure will get underway.
Radloff says the old structure will be removed section by section, with one section being preserved for a heritage display.
