TERRACE – Construction has started at 2812 Hall Street for a new $5.8-million emergency shelter and transitional housing development aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness in Terrace.
The 20-unit development is being built under the Provincial Homelessness Initiative, which integrates support services with housing to help people move towards more permanent and independent living situations.

Ksan House Society will manage the facility, which is expected to open in summer 2009. The society will work with local community agencies to provide residents with off-site services such as mental health support, drug and alcohol counselling and employment supports.

“Ksan House Society is committed to helping individuals and families who are living in poverty and is therefore happy to participate in this project,” said Jan LeFrancois, director of housing programs for Ksan House Society. “Our new development will support Terrace residents facing hardship by providing access to secure and affordable housing that will offer a new beginning.”

They are building homeless shelters all over BC.
It's all in preparation of the olympics when they will ship homeless people from the lower mainland into the interior.

$5.8 million bucks fer a twenty unit development? Do the math. That is a quarter million bucks per unit. Must be posh. Almost makes ya want to be homeless in Terrace don't it? Offer a new beginning from hardship? Wow! If this is all it takes, here's my wallet.
Is there a waiting list? Who decides? Who is in charge of it when it is finished? Who pays their wages? For how long? Too many questions. The more irresponsible you are the more the government rewards you with other peoples hard earned over taxed dollars. Grrrr.
Terrace is only a few miles from Prince Rupert (relatively speaking). Prince Rupert will grow to the size of Vancouver b4 the next century.

As the ice melts in the arctic and shipping routes change, Terrace may become a suburb of Rupert (becoming the Downtown east side of that city). Just like here in Prince George which is now spreading west and will continue growth that way. What about our "Downtown east side" in the bowl? It's not just smaller communities affected by progress and changing environments!

Changes made now will affect the future to ensure that smaller communities east of PG and PR that could be influenced negatively by progress have the tools necessary to be less impacted. More is needed however this is a good start. Have a great day
