Prince George, B.C. -  As Synovate prepares to wind down its operations and close its doors by the end of the year, Telus is hoping to hire some of the best of Synovate’s employees.

Tomorrow, a couple of managers from Telus will be making the pitch to Synovate workers. “We are doubling our call centre in Prince George” says Shaun Greffard of Telus “so we need 75 employees to join our call centre team.”  Telus is pumping $1.3 million into renovations.

Greffard says   the successful candidates will handle customer service, and help customers make the most of their service packages. There is a need for a further dozen or so employees, who can work in the field, installing services. Those “field” positions are in communities throughout the north.

Synovate is a call centre, but the nature of the business was research, not customer service “There will be some transferable skills” says Greffard, like a pleasant voice and ability to be conversational, “This is an exceptional opportunity for the City because it is coming at a time when there have been some job losses and it’s a great opportunity for Telus because there are some exceptional employees out there.”

About 94 full and part time Synovate workers will be out of a job by the end of the year as the company closes down its Prince George operation.

The salary for Telus call centre employees is in the $55 thousand dollar range.

They will be beating down the doors at The Big T. for 55 grand. Synovate offers their employees flexible scheduling and regular wage increases, plus performance bonuses, but they are starting from a lower base pay rate. New hires at Telus have to pass a criminal record check and I suppose that will not be a problem for most applicants.
