Prince George, B.C. - The application to move the Chances Bingo centre over to the Treasure Cove Casino is up for a public hearing this evening at Prince George City Council.  While the application comes with support from all of the charities who benefit from the bingo income and the neighbours of the casino, the only dissenting voice  is from Lyn Florey of the Community Planning Council.  She calls on Council to get more information before making a decision.
The second public hearing   is for the passage of the Second Hand Dealers and Pawn Brokers bylaw. That bylaw will put in place regulations for the taking of identification and holding of property before it can be sold. The intent is to prevent pawnbrokers and second hand dealers from unwittingly become “fences” for stolen goods.
Council will also be asked to support an application for funding to construct Boundary Road under the Build Canada fund. The construction cost is expected to be in the $48 million dollar range and the City would be responsible for   one third.
The Spruce Kings are asking for permission to sell beer  and wine at 24 of their games this season. The sales would be limited to the multi purpose room at the Coliseum.
Shooters Bar and Jordy’s Lounge at Brunswick and 5th, is requesting an additional 20 seats for liquor service on it’s new second floor deck. That facility already has a license for 214 liquor seats inside.
There is a request to spend $2500 per person for a trip to Victoria and Portland to see how those cities have made a program called  “Housing First” reduce the problem of homelessness in their respective communities.
Council will be asked to approve  applying for $75 thousand  for a study on  the development of a  hybrid garbage truck.  Council will also  be asked to approve the U-Pass.  The U-Pass  will be available to University students for $48 dollars and will entitle them to unlimited transit travel during the semester as well as  free public swims at the  Four Seasons and Aquatic Centre pools.

Where I work, my co-workers and myself as the boss come up with new ideas, research them and decide upon them. We don't need a $75,000 study to conclude something, if we did my employer would soon find a different Manager. Why does this city keep doing one study after another for things that their own Management should be able to do ? We have an abundance of them ! We make decisions costing into in the millions with a group of good people and no study each time.
I personally believe and think this moving of the Chances Bingo Centre over to the Treasure Cove Casino has been the underlying plan since the get go...too many things didn't add up........so I have no doubt that this move is going to happen.........

And another application to sell liquor...at hockey games that should pass ...the others did...
My understanding is that Mr Major stands to loose a few million dollars with this move. How can you say that this was an underlying plan. Good businessman don't plan to loose this kind of money. This is a good move for downtown. I hear that there are a few very substantial businesses looking at the site. This would be good for the area. Much better than a Bingo Hall. If Council Doesn't approve this move they need their head read. This move will be a win win for everyone.
giterdun, it seems there's people who can find some sort of conspiracy in everything, and if you'll notice, it's the same people all the time.
Hey, sign me up for one of those $2,500 trips to Victoria and Portland. I'd like to see how the homeless live down there and have a bit of holiday also on the taxpayers dime. LOL
"Housing First"
Reduce the problem of homelessness in their respective communities. It looks like some people are going on a Holiday with P.G. taxpayers money. P.G. has so many new homeless because we are bringing them in from all over Canada and who knows where with who knows what.
Aug.25th Citizen : One location for social services considered. I wonder if the location they are working on is the new Friendship Lodge? Mr. Krause says "We will not ghettoize our services" They will be located in a respectful place in th community. So why not in the Native Friendship Center? The building is HUGE. He also says we don't want to be in conflict, we hear the concerns of the merchants. Its so sad that no one heard or is listening to the concerns of the residents who will have to live around this Big new homeless shelter on Queensway.

"..Council will also be asked to support an application for funding to construct Boundary Road under the Build Canada fund. The construction cost is expected to be in the $48 million dollar range and the City would be responsible for one third..."

Why would council support an application for funding of a road that only has a conceptual plan? With out a plan Boundary Road is only a pipe dream and nothing might happen. Council has not recognized conceptual plans in the past as being legitimate.
