Prince George, B.C. -   It is back to school and time again for school zone reminders.

Drivers are reminded to take extra caution throughout school zones watching for children, school buses and crossing guards.

RCMP are suggesting that drivers pay more attention especially the first week back as students are excited and may have forgotten the rules of the road.

When school is in session a 30km/hr school zone speed limit is in effect between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Community Policing and volunteers will be set up in various school zones with speed boards advising motorists of their speed.

Uniformed members will also be monitoring speeds and handing out tickets. Tickets for speeding in a school zone range from $196.00 to $235.00.

Yeah, slow down eh.
metalman.
That's kind of wierd, top fine only being $235.00

quote = He speaks:

"That's kind of wierd, top fine only being $235.00"

That's just bad research and reporting on opinion250's part. Actual fines are in a 30 kmh zone are:

31 - 50 km/h $196
51 - 70 km/h $253
71 - 90 km/h $368
greater than 90 km/h $483

Anytime you drive double the posted speed you also risk a dangerous driving charge or a charge of drive with undue care and attention......
But who wants to risk hurting our youngsters....
well try and keep the school zones safe.....

RIGHT!

HAve a good day all...
Now to just get the city buses to obey the school zones as well.
And the RCMP and the taxis
Drug penalties are a lot less. How come?
Well folks another school year is soon upon us,I talked to all involved last year, the police, school dis.57 and even took it to city council.
About the SPEEDERS IN SCHOOL ZONES,we are getting a new principle this year at GLENVIEW
yea!!
Now lets see I got totally feed up with the Speeders and I blockaded the street to get the message across, well some got it and still there are few WHO do not get the big picture.THE KIDS SAFETY.If it persists,I will put your licence plate ,make and model of your VECHILE IN SPEEDERS OF THE WEEK.And if that does not work hang on to your hats folks I kept my signs and I have a whole bunch of little protesters lined up,how about once a week.
There were a few PARENTS who went thru my protest cursing and swearing at me KUDOS to you me child got some new one to add to her vocabulary, and you drop off parents try walking your child to school and see what I and the other kids walking to school have to put up with.
From the school sign 30 km,it takes 9.5 seconds [I have timed it on at least 5 occasions and so has the bus driver]I have timed some going thru the zone at close to 70kms and there are a couple of you GUILTY .The fine are a joke really, they should be in 10km increments, for each 10 kms over the fine should DOUBLE,then you'll get it,in the pocket book and points.
Lets slow down for the safety of the children..
You know "Elsies DAD," you have a good heart, and are canvassing for a good cause. Unfortunately, you really need to work on your execution to get any respect.
rambelon;you have no idea what I went thru last, period i call the police and they say did you call the school dis.I call the school dis. and they say did you call the police catch 22.If youm have any better ideas i'm open.I'm going to wait a bit to see if my spiel to city council does any good before I take any action.
As I recall, the problem many had with Elsie's Dad's 'execution' was that people were upset that kids were being used as a blockade or partial blockade to get people to slow down. How awful would he have felt if somebody got hurt?

There is no excuse for using bad language around a kid, but there is also no excuse for potentially putting a kid in harm's way to make a point.
kids were not put in harms way they were all on one side of the road, oops my friends child held the other end of the banner. If the press had showed up as I called and told them what i was doing I would have been hail a hero!
Now why don't you come sit in this school zone at 2;15 pick up and see for yourself.I pick my child up once or twice the whole year speed demons,ya have not seen anything, especially the ones that are late!!
You can't miss Glenview it's the only address on CLUFF...see for yourself then tell me.
And be sure you get your story straite before you go beaking off ...
next time I do my blockade I'll be sure to invite all ,good to see some concern. As for the kids being put in harms way not a chance. So why don't you get out of your SUV's and see what I have to put up with, you'll be singing a different tune.Or call traffic Sargent Trembly he knows who I am,I'm the one who calls and complains about the speeders,I put up the slow school zone signs,to no avail. So get your story strait be4 you go beaking off.Speeders of the week look for it here on 250 my 10 cents..
WOW so the police are actually going to monitor the zones this year? For how long? During actual pick up and drop off times I hope.
Drivers also need to watch the crosswalks too! Also be aware of young cyclists!
Hmm, while I am listing here, I suggest that 60 kms/h on local streets is way too fast as well! What is the hurry?? And by the way, if you tail gate me when I am at the limit, don't be surprised if I have to stop and you wind up rear ending me for following too close! REMEMBER THE 2 SECOND RULE??? or did ya skim over that part on your exam?
Wow. Obviously I touched a nerve. Sorry about that! Oh, and thanks for your advice, but I will 'beak' off on any subject I choose.

I still agree with the poster above, you have a good cause, but your method of getting your message out is lacking. I doubt Opinion250 will let you post plate numbers, but best of luck with that.
All the power to you Elsie's Dad, and to heck with those of you who disagree, or criticize "his execution" This is a man who has the guts to make a stand and you feel that he could have been a little more touchy-feely? THere is NO excuse for speeding in the school zones, like he says, leave a few seconds earlier, or better yet, find the brains you were born with and plan ahead, or is that too difficult to do? The police? yeah, theres a joke. If they do a study and find that they can exceed their ticket quota at a given school zone then maybe you will have some enforcement, until then, keep hoping!
metalman.
Ok, here's the thing for those who don't get it. You do not have the right to block traffic flow.

If I've done all the right things, planned ahead, left on time, travelled the speed limit everywhere, and somebody decides to block traffic to tell me something I already know which causes me to be late for work, you're darn right I'm going to be mad about it.
Thank-you metalman..John Q Pubilc[aka]mrpg.
now why don't you take an afternoon come sit up on Dawson at Cluff and take count of the brain dead speeders EH!!yes they even spin there tires in the parking lot!!drive round in circles like a bunch of clowns..again most got the point and some DO NOT.Did you know that 30 plus kids are killed every year in cross walks and in school zones, 1 is too many.Ohh and talk about late for work, well you should see just how fast they are,I've clocked them at 70kms cool EH!!NOT.
And yes I will blockade again,again...next time I'll have the proper media there as witnesses!!!
