Prince George, B.C. – The Cops For Cancer Tour de North is planning a meet and greet / send off for all the riders this Friday morning.

Riders and fans can fuel up at the pancake breakfast hosted by Remax on 15th Ave across from Parkwood Mall from 8:00am to 10:00am.

Tour de North riders will arrive at 8:30am which will kick off sponsor presentations and for those brave enough, head shavings.

Dennis Nore, from the Canadian Cancer Society says riders are coming from 14 detachments this year, “We have people from as far away as Fort St John, 100 Mile House and Prince Rupert. Some have shipped their bikes to Summerside Sport and Cycle for a tune up and are either driving a vehicle used in the ride or taking the R.C.M.P plane.”

The riders will begin their trek to Prince Rupert between 9:30am and 9:45am.  They will be escorted by one Police vehicle and one will follow behind them for the entire 7 day ride.

The Tour is working toward a goal of $250,000. Although the website states the current total raised is $50,000 they have recently had more fundraisers such as the weekend events at Costco which raised $3000.00 and a dinner and dance in Prince Rupert that raised $13,000. More sponsors are also expected to make donations throughout the ride.
