The application to rezone a piece of property at Prudente Road has been given first three readings.

City staff had recommended approval saying the application was only for a portion of the property which is currently vacant treed space.

The purchaser of the property wants to use part of the land for a playground and expanded parking for the Sikh Place of Worship.

The property is currently owned by the City and was initially set aside for the development of a school, but School District 57 says the property is no longer needed.
The sale price of the property was not immediately available, but the City says the price is market value and any costs associated with that sale (surveys etc) are being covered by the purchaser.

Staff recommends final approval be withheld until the full cost of landscaping, screening, paving, and storm connections has been deposited with the City.

Although Council received at least four letters expressing concern over the rezoning, only one resident appeared before Council to say there is a serious parking issue.
