Prince George, B.C.- The Parks and Green Space Plan for the city of Prince George, presents 30 recommendations including the call for the acquisition of some lands along the Nechako and Fraser rivers.
After looking at five district areas of the city, the study concludes there is a 9.22 Ha parkland deficiency in the East Bowl area, 22.05 Ha in the West Bowl, 14.24 Ha in P.G. West, and deficiency of 1.53 Ha in the North Nechako/Hart area.
Only P.G. East recorded a surplus, and that was 2.47 Ha.
Major Parkland Acquisition Recommendations include:
• acquisition of riverfront lands.
• acquisition of 14.24 Ha of lands for District Park in the PG West District;
• a further review of Neighbourhood Park needs in the Croft/Montgomery, Aberdeen and Seton neighbourhood areas;
Major Parkland Development Recommendations include the:
• development of Ron Brent Park as a Neighbourhood Park;
• establishment of special interest facilities and Off Leash Areas; and the
• development of Carlisle, Christopher and Stauble Neighbourhood Parks and Fish Trap Island, Nechako Riverside and Parkridge Creek City Natural Parks;
Laurie Kosec, Park Planner for the City says the public response indicated interest in off leash parks, trails and riverfront access.
Manager of Long Range Planning , Dan Milburn, says the recommendations would only be accepted and acted upon as approved during the normal budget process, "This gives us and the public, direction and certainty."
