P.G. Student Wins Scholarship

Prince George, B.C.- A student from Prince George has won the major Queen Elizabeth II British Columbia Centennial Scholarship.

Alexander Hemingway, from Prince George, is an honours psychology major with a minor in computing at Simon Fraser University.  He plans to use his $60,000 scholarship to study global politics at the London School of Economics.
Hemingway was one of four provincial finalists for a Rhodes Scholarship in 2007. His awards and honours include the Canada Millennium Excellence Award, the Premier's Excellence Award and the Gordon M. Shrum Scholarship. He won the Governor General's Academic Medal and Top Academic Award at D.P. Todd secondary school.

He served on the board of directors of the SFU student society, as a member of the senate and as a student representative to the research ethics board. He volunteers at a food bank, sponsors a Kenyan child and writes human rights appeals for Amnesty International.

The other two  scholarship winners each received $5,000 dollars for their  further studies.
