Prince George, B.C.- A special conference set for next month in Prince George will focus on strategies to revitalize rural communities.

Sponsored by the  B.C. Real Estate Foundation,  the  three day conference will feature experts and organizations which have  decades of experience in  working in rural areas.  "Their passion around recognizing the importance of rural areas and helping communities reinvent themselves for a 21st century world is unmistakable! " says Tim Pringle, Executive Director of the B.C. Real Estate Foundation.

The conference  will hear how other communities are  re-inventing themselves through reinvestment, research, paying attention to trends & best practices as they emerge, and partnerships.

To date, those registered to take part in the conference cover  the spectrum of  government and organizations which  can effect change.

Some of the topics that will be expored are:
  • the benefits and lessons learned with regard to rural regional economic investment
  • Revitalization isn't just about an economic plan. Speakers will demonstrate that people are less likely to move to a community simply to have a job but they will move to a community that meets their personal needs  and then take an available job or create a new  job.
  • key rol of non goverment organizations and  education  institutions in supporting and  creating change
  • key role non-profits can play in nurturing new business.

The conference is set for October 6 through  the 8th.

why is this conference in the "City of PG"? they don't really care about rural I guess
I agree. It should be in Dunster. Everyone could stay with a farming family and eat free range eggs and magic mushrooms.
Magic Mushrooms, where in Dunster. I thought that was a west coast thing.
Giscome School has a kindergarden this year because people are raising families out east again.
