Dan Rogers makes it official, he's in the race  for Mayor
Prince George, B.C.- Better roads, Better Air, Better Business Better Downtown, those are the four points for the campaign launched by Dan Rogers as he vies for the office of Mayor of Prince George.

The former Councillor who ran against incumbent Colin Kinsley in the last municipal election (and lost) says he has concerns about the direction the city has been taking “I love this City, but I’m worried about its future, spending that has outpaced inflation and growth, questionable investments and significant tax increases are setting a dangerous scenario for your children and mine.”
Rogers’ says one of the questionable investments was the guarantee for Horizon Air “Clearly those partnerships are possible, but you need to secure the interest and keep the taxpayer protected. You cannot go back and ask the taxpayer to subsidize individual business.”
In launching his campaign this evening, Rogers told the gathering at the Italian Club downtown he wants to provide strong leadership, “I’m not just talking about my plans, I’ve put them in writing so it’s absolutely clear where I plan to lead this City.” He has produced an “Action Plan for a Better Prince George.” (accessible at www.DanRogers.ca )
In the last election, Rogers was portrayed by the opposition as someone who was indecisive,  he says he’s gained from that experience “I’ve clearly learned from some of my setbacks that its important to get to the point as quickly as you can, that’s what we’ll focus on in this campaign, to share a different view, to change the culture at city hall and make it a much better City.”   He says running against Colin Kinsley took a lot of guts “We were extremely proud the last time around how we raised the level of discussion and you don’t do that by sitting on the sidelines and saying nothing.”

Oh, come on boneheads. I can`t believe that there are not a flurry of inane comments on this story.
We need a Mayor and council to straighten out our own City Hall. City Hall itself turns and drives away more business, development, expansion than anything else. I hope that the new council and Mayor will make this a priority.
It will be interesting to see who wins the post of Mayor. It is boring to hear them say
"The downtown needs repair," well duh! One thing is certain the downtown will be the same or worse in 4 years. It is going to take more than 4 years to fix. Not to mention all they seem to say is we need to fix the downtown, but offer no solutions. And to think the disgusting Bingo Hall was supposed to be a jewel of rebirth. If that's all we can think of we are in bad shape. I'm not offering any solutions. And news flash to Rogers, you need to spend money to make money. Our roads are a frikin disgrace. It's not going to kill us to spend more than the rate of inflation, occasionally.
Hmmm...

Lets see a news reader or a businessman ..

It nice to see Dan has the same concerns as the rest of us, so to get some action on the "things to do" list, I assume Dan will be voting for Don?

The mayor doesn't really get to make much difference in council anyway as the council does whatever they want, no matter how much the mayor may think differently. But sometimes the mayor does get to cast a deciding vote. For example, as a councillor Dan R voted against allowing the Bonnet Hill Pub to be built, and that made a tie on council, 4 to 4. So the mayor cast the deciding vote, and the Bonnet Hill Pub was built. That's when a mayor can make a difference.
Dan's got my vote, plain and simple!!!
I have to admit, I'm leaning to Dan. It's been a total toss-up until now. Don may be just more of Colin, and at least Dan was willing to challenge Colin. The past 3 years have been wasted. At least Dan has been able to step back and see, and maybe his eyes are open a little wider than Don's.
I think Dan would make a good mayor.
I will be supporting Dan - I believe he learned his lesson and by been off the council he has seen and heard the people of PG - Don is a replica of Colin - trips /casino etc.
I'd vote for Dan but I'm 50 meters out of city limits. I guess I can't really bitch about the potholes but still.....
Neither is perfect by a mile but Don Z. scares the crap out of me. My vote will be for Dan R. without a doubt.
I'm surprised that so many people would throw their support behind Rogers so early. We haven't heard anything from him for a few years and what I remember from the last campaign I didn't like -- he seemed to be a guy who didn't want to make a decision.
I am another one who lives outside of P.G. village limits thus cannot vote. I hear that there is a push on however to allow business and property owners to vote on municipal matters, even if their principal residence is not in the town.
I suppose that Mr. Rogers is a better choice compared to Donnie Zed, perhaps only because he has been away from council for a few years. Apart from that, I still think that he is too p.c. and non agressive
metalman.
Funny. His website is still not up.
(as of 11 am friday).

Great idea. Poor execution.

Yes there is.
Here is the first one..."Oh, come on boneheads. I can`t believe that there are not a flurry of inane comments on this story."
I haven't made my decision but I think Don is Colin's little lap dog. He talks big and then does whatever Colin tells him to.
At this point I've got to go with the "Z" man.... but will wait til both have a go with Meisner to make final choice....
I want to see them both fight for it....and earn the position. Kudos to Dan for subjecting himself to all this again - in my book that speaks volumes. Hopefully he learned from his last attempt, and will take the constructive criticisms he received to heart. What I don't want is a "passing of the crown" onto Don....just because he and others feel he is "entitled". Voting for him on that basis would be a big mistake. And running his campaign with even a slight "air" of that attitude, will undoubtedly turn voters off. Let's see them get excited and really fight for the position and EARN votes.
I can't believe how quickly people forget in 3 short years. Dan Rogers would make a good mayor if you are looking for a 1st class "fence sitter" who can't take a firm position on any issue and wants to sluff everything off to a committee. We need a mayor who can exhibit some backbone. As out of touch with current issues as Kinsley appears to be, at least we know what he stands for whether we agree with it or not. I have never been able to figure out exactly what Mr. Rogers stands for or against because I've never seen him draw that proverbial line in the sand.

Due to the current economic situation we all find ourselves in regarding mill closures and decline in general of the forestry industry, we need a leader who will put the city first over special interest groups.

Don Zurowski at least has a business background. From what I understand he was a partner in a very successful automotive service & supply company here in PG, and was the manager of a financial institution that loaned money to businesses and individuals who were investing in our community. His solid business background has given him the skills to lead. Mr. Rogers on the other hand is mostly known for reading the news on CKPG, and PR work for the Spruce Kings and ICBC. As nice of a fellow he appears to be, I just don't think he has the experience to lead Prince George through the difficult times ahead. I think a business background trumps a PR background.

What is the City other than a group of special interest groups? Luckily we have some people who have an interest in this city. Those are the people who vote and they vote for the people who they think will look out after their special interests whether that is as simple as less taxes or as complex as making the city attractive to people and the industries which sustain them in this place.

Those who do not vote, have no special interests and that is the majority. They simply do not care.
