Prince George , B.C.- The City of Prince George picked up five blooms for its efforts in the International Communities in bloom competition.
The City of Prince George Parks and Solid Waste Services Division is responsible for, and has taken ownership of, the quality of turf for both sport and passive park users. The enhanced maintenance program developed by the municipality has ensured quality turf through the management of weed and disease using proven sustainability techniques. The program to provide quality turf, free of both weed and disease, has been developed to utilize best practices of Integrated Pest Management, aeration, top dressing, over seeding, and mowing frequencies. The municipality has partnered with the University of Northern British Columbia in a sustainability landscape project researching alternative ground covers and maintenance regimes appropriate for differing site requirements. The success of this program is evident through the excellent reviews received from both national and international tournament organizers.
