Prince George drew the distinction of being number three in Canada (again) when it came to highest gas prices this past week.  If you look at the price BEFORE taxes,  the order was:

1   Whitehorse in the Yukon   78.6

2   Yellowknife NWT               75.5

3.   Prince George, B.C.            67.2

M.J.Ervin & Associates reported on April 19th (the last data available) that in Prince George, we were paying the highest mark up at the pumps of any region surveyed. The refinery margin, that’s the cost for producing the product, stood at 10.6 cents a litre on par with the rest of Canada at 11 cents.  But when it came to mark up by the dealers at the pumps it was a very different story. The national average mark up stood at 4.6 cents a litre, while in Prince George that figure ballooned to 10.7 cents. No other city in Canada came close to the mark up that the local gas stations were receiving. For example in Vancouver  the gas station mark up was 4.8 cents, Kamloops 6.2  and the national average was 4.6 cents.
Including taxes,  last week, gas was selling for:

Winnipeg    85.9

Calgary       81.9

Kamloops    93.2

Kelowna       95.9

and in McBride 94.9

In most cities across Canada last week, the price per litre dropped , Kelowna 2 cents, Whitehorse 3.4 cents , Kamloops 1 cent and Victoria 3 cents.

Prince George prices remained the same.

We've been paying 99.9 in Fort St John for at least a couple of months now. I convinced that the only reason that they haven't gone above that is that they still don't have a place to put that 1.
