Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George will be getting up to $100 thousand dollars to develop a Seniors Community Park.
The actual site for the park has not yet been decided, and the full cost of the park has not been finalized, but the Province has announced the City will be getting some funding.
The dollars are part of a $1.8 million dollar commitment from the Province for the ActNow BC Seniors Community Park fund which will distribute the money to 18 communities throughout B.C.
The Seniors Community Park will provide specialized outdoor recreational equipment and activities designed to improve mobility, coordination and balance, as well as opportunities for social interaction - a critical healthy living component for older people.

The City is expected to provide the land, site preparation, ongoing maintenance and program delivery for the park which is to be installed by the spring of 2009.

And then someone will bring their dog ...
Lotsa bushes fer the crack addicts to jump out from fer dough fer their next fix. Could happen.
Is it an on or off leash facility? Cuz Mom's pretty well behaved but Dad's a little feral.
give out guns and medals to some of the seniors and the crack heads would find someone else to bother. City to provide land lets hope that it can be easly accessed by all seniors
Election coming up.
How about the Ginter property. Old Ben (Ginter)needs some recognition and there is lots of room for us old guys to strech their legs and climb the hill to the building site. Great exercise. Think I'll run for council and use it for my platform. Aw heck Eugene would probably beat me in the race to great power.

Cheers
Lots of negative comments.
Must be a lot of realists out there.
Tee hee.

I call them as I see them.
"...to improve mobility, coordination and balance,..."

They don't have to build a senior park for me to exercise my mobility, coordination and balance: The sidewalk that I try to use (it's the only one for miles around) is narrow enough, sloped enough and busted enough to qualify as an extreme physical fitness adventure challenge whenever an intrepid soul is brave enough to tackle it!

Just like the planned 100 grand park it is
completely unusable and far too dangerous in the winter time - plowing and sanding happen only occasionally, if ever.

Priorities, dear people, priorities!

Construct 21st century sidewalks first! (Please!).
What's wrong with choosing an existing park and modifying it with the new found cash being handed out to cater to seniors? Chester
Seniors Park, What, who is going to monitor this. Do you need to prove your age to go into this park. Do you build a fence around it. Can we feed them through the fence.

Come on, Guys, try to get both oars in the water. Just because there is a grant out there, it does not mean that we go for it. Seriously, if there giving us a 100 grand, how much are we putting in ..... 300 grand.

Another case of some politician giving our money away just so they will beable to state "Look what I have done for the people of this country"

Just keep on increasing our taxes and thinking of more ways to spend our money just to make yourselves look special.

Money doesn't grow on trees and I'm sick of working my ass off just to have it taken away from me because some idiot that makes more than I do with less deductions thinks all their ideas are wonderful and they are doing whats best for us.

HAVE YOU HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BS YET???
Perhaps give the money to seniors that need it to heat their homes or put food on their tables, just not for another waste of taxpayers dollars.
Yes heat their homes, pay for their prescriptions that Campbell took most of the coverage away from the seniors.
Put in a huge water fountain (that kids can play in) at the bottom of Rainbow Park and stock the pond with fish (so kids can annoy old people who are trying to fish), and then surround the pond with a nice dock area where it gets the days sun, and also allow for a beer cart that some semi-retired could run... then all the old people from the surrounding homes could wheel chair their way down to the dock on a paved trail with runaway lanes and the whole works... hang out fishing in the afternoon over a few beers with friends....

There is lots of area to work with at Rainbow Park, and its centrally located... plus the park could really use the investment anyways since they clear cut what was once I think the best urban park in the city.
Eagle, I like that idea! Lostfaith, you speak true! Keep on telling it like it is.
