AbitibiBowater Paper Mill in Mackenzie Up for Sale

Mackenzie, B.C.- “ For Sale, one used paper mill in beautiful northern B.C. community.” That may soon be the sign posted in Mackenzie.
The union , CEP local 402 has announced it has reached an agreement with Abitibi Bowater to sell the mill that was idled in January, putting more than 200 people out of work.
It was late November of last year that AbitibiBowater announced it would close the Mackenzie mill and several others in Canada in an effort to stop the financial bleeding.
The union says it will do everything possible to find a new buyer and bring the paper mill back on line. 235 employees lost their jobs at the paper plant when it went down.
It wasn’t long before AbitibiBowater's saw mill and planer mill which supported the paper mill also closed, putting a further 337 on the unemployment line.
