Dawson Creek, B.C. – RCMP and Search and Rescue workers are continuing to conduct a grid search around the site of the second EnCana sour gas explosion site.
“Our Explosive Disposal Unit, National Post Blast Team and Forensic Identification Section and local Search and rescue are still proceeding slowly and methodically”, says Sgt Tim Shields, E Division Media Relations. “Because of the size of the area that we have identified at this location, we are proceeding cautiously to make sure that no piece of evidence is missed. At this point we are planning on concluding that portion of the investigation by tomorrow afternoon.”
Investigators are also looking into reports of a vehicle leaving the area of the second explosion at approximately 6:15 am on the morning of October 16, 2008. Reports of the vehicle came from two local hunters who reported it as suspicious.
“At this point we are still trying to determine if the vehicle was related to this incident or just happened to be in the area. We have had conflicting reports over the make and colour, so we are focusing on some specific details of the vehicle to help us narrow down our search. If anyone recognizes the description and knows of a similar vehicle that was in the area at the same time we would ask that they contact Dawson Creek RCMP or Crimestoppers,” says Sgt. Shields.
The details include: a new model full sized pickup truck, square LED tail lights, extended mirrors with turn signals on them.
