Northern Health Now Part Of Patient Care Review Board
By 250 News
The review boards will assist the patient-care complaint process in British Columbia.
Those with concerns are encouraged to first address complaints at the local level. If you are not satisfied the next step is to make a formal complaint through the Patient Care Quality Office and finally those who are still not satisfied their complaint has been addressed can request an independent Patient Care Quality Review Board to review the matter.
Members of the review boards are drawn from the local community, and are independent of the health authorities.
Lorna Dittmar, William Norton, David Wilbur and Linda D. Locke have been selected as the Northern Health representatives.
The Patient Care Quality Review Board Act requires:
· Each health authority to establish a central patient care quality office, which can receive concerns from patients or their loved ones in person, by telephone, fax or email.
· Each health authority to follow a standardized process in receiving tracking and responding to care quality concerns.
· Each health authority to meet timelines in responding to public complaints within 30 business days.
· Review boards to make recommendations to the health authorities and the minister with the goal of continuously improving the health care system.
· Review boards to report annually to the minister on the number and type of complaints received, the timeliness of service, the recommendations made, and other related information.
The review board has launched a website www.patientcarequalityreviewboard.ca as well as a toll free number for more information: 1-866-952-2448.
