Prince George, B.C.- Two Coaches from Prince George and one from Chetwynd are among 18 coaches to be honoured this evening at a BC School Sports recognition dinner tonight in Richmond.

Dave Holmes - Duchess Park Secondary School,  Roland Rempel - Cedars Christian school, and Helen Toppin - Chetwynd Secondary school will be honoured for their dedication at the event.

Each  will receive a framed certificate and a BC150 commemorative book titled British Columbia:Spirit of the People, chronicling the province's history. The coaches were chosen after being profiled by BC School Sports. Each month, the
website profiles a male and female coach in recognition of their commitment and hard work, based on submissions from athletic associations, member schools and sport commissions.

Each profiled coach is also entered to win the provincial coach of the year award.  This year's winners are Joe Moreira, of Mt. Sentinel Secondary school in South Slocan, and Marion McNeill of Seaquam Secondary school in Delta.

I find it is wonderful to honour teachers who are involved in athletics, but why not honour teachers who sponsor other activities as well? There are some wonderful music teachers who have worked for years in relative obscurity.

Just doesn't seem right.
culturevulture,

Likely because these are awards given out by BC School Sports. Why would they give out music awards?
