Prince George, B.C.- Fire crews were called to smoke in a building at the Village Towers, 1245 20th Avenue before 8 this morning. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke in the east stairwell. A number of residents had already evacuated the building.
Fire crews found a burned out couch in the stairwell. The fire had been extinguished by maintenance staff of the apartment building. There was still heavy smoke in the stairwell and on some of the floors.
Fire crews searched the building and advised residents to stay in their suites if there was no smoke. Those residents who had smoke in their suites were evacuated.
Fire Officials arranged for two city buses to standby at the scene for the evacuated residents.
After the smoke had been cleared residents were allowed to return to their suites.
