Hugs for Kemo, returned tohis family after being missing since the summer

Prince George, B.C.- There are plenty of smiles in the Kokesch home.

The five children and the parents had been looking for their dog Kemo for the past few months. He disappeared from their 150 acre farm in the Prince George area, and despite calls to the SPCA, the distribution of numerous posters, there was no sign of the 13 year old dog.

The Kokesch’s were then informed someone had spotted Kemo, and it turned out he had ended up at the SPCA and was adopted out.

The family didn’t have an easy time trying to get the SPCA to act on it, Kimberly Kokesch says she was told several times by various parties involved “This is a legal adoption”.

Well, Kimberly went public with her story yesterday, talking to Meisner on CFISFM.

By yesterday afternoon she had received an apology from the B.C. SPCA  and an apology from the National office. Best of all, the woman who had adopted Kemo, returned him to the family.

“When he saw us, he gave us that certain happy bark, like oh you’re back , as if he had been at a dog sitter for a couple of months.” Says Kimberly, when Kemo got home, it didn't take long for him to settle back in “He went to my daughter’s bed, jumped up and curled up to go to sleep in the spot he has slept for the past eleven years.”

Kimberly says she will have Kemo tattooed, and get a new collar and new tags for him.

Kimberly says the woman who adopted the dog is not at fault “It was a very long and painful experience for us and I wanted to mention one thing....The lady that adopted our dog was never told our story from the SPCA in PG. Although it was difficult for her, after speaking with Mark and hearing the story, she did return him without a second thought. We all agree that it was the right thing to do, and if you happen to know her, please thank her.”

Kimberly is very grateful for all the support they received “This shows how community support works. Taking the time to read, respond and forward our story, has changed my family’s life forever. We can't express how thankful we are, but you can go to bed tonight knowing that you were a part of something wonderful! Fight for what you believe in, never give up and never ever walk away when someone says that there is nothing that they can do!!!”

It's a dog... ?

It sleeps on the kids bed? Yuk!

Congratulations to the family...I am so happy for you and your kids. And to the woman who gave him back.....as hard as it must have been to give him up, I admire you for doing the right thing! Good news stories are often hard to come by - too bad not EVERYONE appreciates them!!!!!!!!!!!!
A good news story all around. It's nice to have a warm fuzzy story for a change. Must be awful hard for some people to find fault here. Glad you got your valued pet back and kudos to the lady who gave him back. Great story even he does sleep on the bed. Big deal.
YamaDooPolCat - really? I do feel sorry for the people who are obligated to share your life.
Just another proof, that we should be
very glad to have Mr. Meisner back!
He has helped many of us in the past
and still does.
I am happy for the family and happy
to have someone, whom we can turn
to in need of help.

Thanks, Mr. Meisner.

Yes, thanks Ben. Wonderful story. And my dog sleeps on my bed too.
that is great that the family got their loved one back, and a huge hug and kudos to the lady that adopted the dog and returned him to his family!!

and my dog not only sleeps on my bed but under the covers most of the time, just like a heating blanket!!
A co-worker had the same problem, kept checking with the SPCA for months. Six months later some one told the new owners who bought the dog from the SPCA that he knew who owned the dog before. The new owners contacted the co-worker and dog and owner had a happy reunion.
Well if it makes you feel better I like dogs better than the SPCA...

Dogs in your beds, it is amazing now dirty some people will live, and then complain about a hair in their hamburger. Or can't understand where they got lice or worms.
OMG
There are a lot of inaccuracies to this story with no research being done, although I am glad that the dog has been reunited.
LOL Yama, for a while there your posts were becoming almost sensible, now this. What happened?

For clarification dog lice is breed specific, meaning it originates from dogs and transfers only to dogs. It doesn't travel to cats or humans and is easily treated. Worms is an intestinal condition that most dog lovers are proactive about. Worms also don't pole vault to humans.

Now I wonder about the cleanliness of someones home that spends their entire life posted to Opinion 250.
lol..Yama

What a nice story especially for an older dog! My dad had property out by the skidoo club and if a dog went missing, it stayed missing so this is quite a nice story. Very happy for the family especially the kids. Kemo is adorable!
The beige dog is thinking, "Where are my hugs???"

:) Cute!
Glad the dog is back with the family. It would have saved the family some heartache if the dog had some form of id. ID tag with owners name and number is not that expensive. Don't have much faith in one sided stories.
