No Decision on KGV for Now

A decision on the  future of KGV  will  have to wait until after the election.

School District 57 Chairperson, Bill Christie, says the School District will meet  privately with the current City Council  before the election, and then  with the new Council  after it is sworn in  December 5th.

The existing Council  has approved a motion  supporting saving some, if not all of the  original King George V school.

The 1920's built  structure is considered to have significant heritage value, but  saving the building, upgrading, or integrating it with a new Duchess Park design could be a very expensive proposition.

After  approving  a motion recognizing the  heritage value of the School, City Council also requested a meeting with School District 57 as soon as possible.

Its an ugly blot of a building with no arcitectural significance IMO.
Heritage schmeritage can somebody please take a D-9 to this building and give these beauracrats something else to waste time on.

We absolutely do not need to spend any more money on this old school. The least amount they want to put into it is $950,000.00, and that would be just to save the front of it. What a waste that would be. In another 20 years no one is going to remember that place anyway. Put some pictures of it in the art gallery if they want. Maybe this will make some people go to the gallery so we get a little bit of value for the money we keep dumping in there.
This building has been on again, off again for the past 9 years I have been walking past it.

Let's face it. It's done. We can't justify putting more money into it. It doesn't meet our needs any longer. And, we can't afford to upgrade it, and maintain it just for the sake of memories.

It's just not that great of a piece of architecture worth keeping in my view. Even when it was in use, it looked as if it was out of service. It's time to move on.

For the sake of anyone who has an emotional attachment to the building, let them come in and take a part of it home with them. Chester
