Prince George, B.C. – The Christmas Season is taking off in Prince George as a variety of organizations hold events to light up the town.
The 15th Annual Civic Light Up starts tonight at The Civic Centre at 6:00pm with a variety of events for the entire family. Promotions and Business Development Coordinator with the City of Prince George, Deb van Adrichem is excited about the traditional events such as hayrides and hot chocolate they are offering again this year but also revealed two live 10 foot trees will replace the one 20 foot tree they have featured in the past,“We want to get away from cutting a tree down. The two trees have arrived and we will be putting them into the plaza for the winter and then transplanting them in the summer.”
The weather is expected to be above zero and clear so organizers are not expecting any problems with decorating or cancelling evening events. The ice rink is temperature controlled and will operate with whatever weather is thrown our way.
The schedule of events include:
- Skating on the outdoor rink (bring your skates) @ 6pm-8pm
- Hayrides with the Prince George Spruce Kings in the Civic Plaza (free) @ 6pm–8pm
- Live Music and Mascots in the Civic Plaza @ 6pm-7pm
- Hot Cocoa in the Civic Plaza (free) @ 6pm-7pm
- Light Up Story Time at the PG Public Library (free) @ 6:15pm-6:45pm or 7:15pm-7:45pm
- Create a Holiday Ornament at Two Rivers Gallery (free) @ 6pm-8pm
- *NEW* Northern Light sculpture made of ice and lights revealed at Two Rivers Gallery @ 7pm

The Northern Lights Festival begins Friday November 28. The festival will once again feature the Connaught Hill holiday display of lights until December 2, 2008. Admission will be $10.00 per car or by tour bus.
December 11 Shirley Bond will host a senior’s night at the Ramada.
Window displays will also light up downtown with poinsettias and Santa in the main window at The Northern.
