James met with reporters this morning and said she would like the Gordon Campbell government to get moving on two things right away.
1.     Have the Federal Government extend EI benefits  for forest workers
2.     Extend the workshare program, as it is coming to a close and mills.

As part of the rural consultation tour, the New Democrats will be hearing from average families, businesses and experts on issues, including the impact of B.C.'s new carbon tax, state of our health care, agriculture and transportation infrastructure. The discussions will help the caucus hone in on solutions that work for rural B.C.

The Rural Caucus public session is set for this evening at 7:00 at the College of New Caledonia.

Over the next few days, the tour will also visit Kamloops and Cranbrook.

I heard EI benfits were already being extended. I heard that a while ago.
You said it Qwa. Your husband paid into it and his employer(s) also contributed, to the tune of 140% I guess that the gov't does not care how much you pay in to the kitty or how many years you contributed. It is not as if the deductions are voluntary either. I agree, they should be extending the benefits, but only to those who are actively seeking employment.
metalman.
Some of us worked all our lives and never drew a penny of EI. Seems like the billions in the EI fund are not enough fot todays unemployed. Yet we hear people talking about how we must move ahead it is all in the plan for our modern society. We need a new PAC a new police building new bridges and the list goes on and on. And forestry and manufacturing are in the dumper.

We really need is to look back and see were we have screwed up. We need to put our brain into gear forget the airy fairy stuff and live within our means. The bottom line is we have not learned to manage our finances.

Cheers
Have a good look downtown. Every third building is a government office of one type or other. Federal, Provincial or City. Looks to me like the only stable jobs are Govt jobs.
You can get a year of EI just by going to Community Futures and taking a short course, then starting some sort of business. Who says it has to be sucessful? I know of at least 50 failures. At least you get a year of EI that you probably need and deserve.
