Prince George, B.C.- With the bang of the gavel, the first meeting of the new Council for the City of Prince George was underway, with Mayor Dan Rogers in charge.
Rogers has already made a change as the seating arrangements are different. No longer does the City Clerk or Administrator sit on the left and right of the Mayor. At Rogers’ request, Councillor Bassermann sits on the left of the Mayor and Councillor Brian Skakun sits on his right. “I wanted to reinforce that we are a team as Council. We are the policy setting group and Administration will follow our lead. So I wanted to make a symbolic statement that we are the team together and Administration is to carry out our priorities.”
The configuration is not foreign as the seating was this way under previous Mayors.
Council has decided that in addition to Mayor Rogers being a Director for the Regional District, the three Councillors who will join him are:
Councillors Garth Frizzell, Dave Wilbur and Debora Munoz. Because there is a weighted vote, Councillor Frizzel was given the weighted vote strength of 5, and Munoz and Wilbur each have a weighted vote of 4.
That too is a change as the previous Directors were Councillors Bassermann, Krause, and Zurowski. Krause and Bassermann put their names forth to be Directors again, but were unsuccessful.

It's about time. No longer does a resident address Mayor and administration. They address Mayor and Council.
It should always have been this way.
