Purchasing Power For Patient Benefits
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C.- When it comes to buying goods, it is no surprise that the bigger the order, the larger the savings. Buying in bulk works that way, and now the Health Authorities are joining together to make it work for them.
Northern Health has joined the other health authorities in the examination of moving to this kind of purchasing approach. The initial study shows the health care budget in the Province could see $150 million in savings in the first 5 years. That money could then be used for direct patient care items for things from extra procedures, increased surgery time, enhanced services, or perhaps recruitment efforts for physicians and nurses.
The non-clinical services confirmed to have savings are in the supply chain, which includes purchasing, warehousing and distribution across health authorities of supplies ranging from pacemakers to soap.
