Prince George, B.C.- The Federal Government has provided $215,930 dollars to the Regional District of Fraser Fort George . The dollars will be used to carry on with studies for industrial land.
The Regional District has already developed an Industrial land plan, but, further research needs to be done on impacts to air quality, transportation needs, infrastructure and geo technical studies.
The study will start early in the new year with air quality monitoring taking the longest to complete. There will need to be monitoring and modelling done for the full year to see what kind of impacts certain industries may have on neighbouring properties.
The most desireable land in between Salmon Valley and Summit Lake, and while the studies will take time to complete, they are being done when industrial development is down ( because of the economic downturn). “This is the perfect time to do the studies” says Terry McEachen the Regional Districts’ Manager of Development Services, “ This way when Industry is ready to invest, we will have the property ready for them.”

This IMO is the most important study Prince George will ever have done because its impacts will have the longest term impact in a big way. I support this federal investment 100%.

Perfect time? The area memntioned was studied at the time when there was a reduction steel mill proposed for PG. And then the studies continued, including other areas. Go in and talk to the planner for the Regional District and he will show you thick files of studies conducted a decade + ago.

The perfect time came and went. We are now into the "flying by the seat of your pants" time period.
Another study financed by the taxpayer. Too much bureaucracy and too little common sense.
