Fort St. John, B.C. -  On December 12, 2008 Fort St. John RCMP were advised of several well sites in the Osborn Area, located north east of Fort St. John, that had been the target of mischief overnight. The investigation has determined that the mischief to the well sites included valves being tampered with and shots being fired at structures located on the well site.

The wells are operated by Iteration Energy. As the investigation proceeded, it was discovered that well sites operated by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd (CNRL) had also been targeted.

The well sites were located in a rural area. There are no residences located in the direct vicinity of these well sites.

The investigation is being conducted by the Serious Crime Unit of the Fort St. John RCMP Detachment. As this time, there is no evidence to suggest that these acts of mischief are related in any way to the recent targeted attacks on Encana well sites in the Dawson Creek area.

The investigation is ongoing and the Fort St. John RCMP are requesting that anyone with information about this incident, contact the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8140. If you wish to remain anonymous please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. They are open 24/7. Tip can be left anonymously online at www.crimestoppersfsj.com You do not have to give your name, address, or your telephone number.

A cash reward of up to $2000.00 will be paid for any information which leads to an arrest and/or charge.

You would think with the security concerns of todays world that these very rich companies would have some type of security systems in place that would help secure their sites and equipment.
A lot of these sites are very remote so putting some sort of security on them would be hard.

How stupid do you have to be to shoot at something which contains and flows natural gas?
I know exactly how remote some of these sites are, I worked them for many years.
Cameras are a helpful form of security and easily deployable no matter how remote.
I agree, but even if you had a camera out there it's unlikely that you'd catch anybody doing anything or be able to get anyone out there fast enough to stop them.

If people want to be stupid, there's not a whole lot you can do outside of posting a security guard at each site.

Security guards at each site? Howe about a homeless person? They love to live outdoors and just offer them some drugs or a little cash stipend. Oh yes. And a substantial reward for any "mischief" makers caught near the wells.
How much does it cost to hire one of those unmanned drones from the Canadian Armed Forces which do 24/7 surveillance using infrared cameras in the night time?

This person or persons is/are a menace to society and need to be locked up before it is too late.

We don't "lock up" people for anything here in Canada. Some people say it doesn't make a difference. Just put them under house arrest or put them on probation or release them into "open custody". Don't jail them before their trial. Or they will get a "two fer one" deal and the Crown could then owe them something for spending more time in jail waiting for their trial than the jail time they may be sentenced to. Trust them to appear before a judge after being released "on their own recognizance". With a promise to appear. We are very progressive here in Canada when it comes to lawbreakers. Doncha know?
with todays cameras it is very likly that you could get a clear picture of the "suspect" to give to the police.
