Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays everyone.
A good morning to all... A Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday, and a wonderous New Year to all
Happy Holidays to everyone.... and please drive safely! We want the phone calls to be happy ones, not the worst news a family can hear. Like the commercial says, "Choose the right ride" when you go partying. And give yourself enough time to get there.
Merry Christmas everyone, I will be as many others, I will be gratefull for all that we have and treasure. If you can, look outside the family and give a needy family a little Christmas love. We have taken a single parent mom under our wings and to give her and her family presents under the tree, and to fill her fridge up.
The time has never been as important as it is now, to spread the Christmas love.

Sorry to ruin the good mood but does anyone else think that "Izaak Smith Day" is just ridiculous. He danced in a tv show and didn't win. Why is that worthy of having an offical civic day? Are we that hard up for good news?
Happy Holidays all!
The good news is that the sun sets a minute later tomorrow.
Our group has done lots of hampers, clothes and gifts to those who have very little.
Great great feeling.
Merry Christmas Prince George!! Everyone please remember your local cab company or Operation Red Nose. Both have very freindly people who are more than willing to get you home safe and sound for a pretty cheap price. Take Care everyone, enjoy your holidays.
Travism

Izzak Smith may not have finished but he is a role model for a lot of youth and came close enough in the competition to have something to be proud of. Terry Fox didn't finish either, would you downplay his efforts to? besides...why not honour the kid. We hear to many bad news stories these days.

MATTS SUNDIN BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS CANUCKS FANS
Who is Matt Sundine?
i figured you wouldnt know...you cant even respell a name from right above you
You are right Vocer, Izzak Smith deserves a huge congrats from everyone. He is only 18 or 19 years old and look what he did. He is a real ambassador for our youth.
On this web site read around the world and where 73% tell us that they would vote for the Progressive conservatives if an election were called at this time. Well I have some very bad news for those that deceive themselves into thinking that the PC’s could form a majority government if elected. The Pc’s don’t have a chance of forming a majority government anymore then there is a chance of a snowball surviving in a very hot place.

Mr Harper is a frump and most Canadian know it other then the voters in Prince George. For those who wonder what a frump is it’s a person that expels digestive gases, smells them and thinks that they are aromatic and all the rest of us will have the same opinion. This odor believed by the many in Prince George have given us two lumps of coal to represent us in Ottawa.. From one we get a bit of gas on this web site of what happens on the Hill and the other is absolutely stone quite.

The economy is in the dumper but our illustrious leader has the Governor General close the doors on parliament for those who govern and has now gone on the campaign trail on our dime. This is the same guy that wanted to take the funding from the other parties in our democracy and his solution to solve the economic crisis was to prohibit his employees to strike for better wages.. He now gives us more gas and wants us to believe how wonderful he is .This is the same guy that can’t look us in the eye on national TV and his only display of emotion is a Cheshire like smile on his face that is obviously more digestive gas pain

The song and dance now across Canada is that a coalition is undemocratic. They are on the band wagon telling us how the Bloc is only interested in separation the same Bloc that the PC’s tried to cerise into forming a majority government with them. They completely ignored the fact that every member of parliament regardless of their political beliefs have been democratically elected to represent their constituents forgetting that they have slammed the door of parliament in the face of the opposition to govern in their muddling manner for a couple of months to give us more of their unsavory gases.

Harpers gang is moving across our country today. They have invited all of us to contribute to their budget effort. In the end only the bankers the corporations and their share holders will be herd. They live in the upper canopy of the jungle and all they see is green. Mean while down on the forest floor the rot and the decay continue and the creatures there will have to fend for themselves.

Cheers
It would be nice to see the Campbell Liberals follow Nfld's lead and take back Abitibi's timber rights in the MacKenzie region, then re-sell them to the company that offers the best economic stimulus package for the town.

And since I am now talking nonsense, it would also be wonderful to see PG's new council upgrade the Hart Highway north of the bridge and also Foothills Blvd to a streetlight standard equal to that of Highway 16 West and University Way. I remember many years ago the reason these two major routes were underlit is because there was not sufficient traffic volume to warrant the costs. Then along came UNBC, and look at the lighting on University Way. Having lived in the Hart area for 31 years now, I know that the traffic volumes on both the Hart Highway and Foothills Blvd far exceed that of University Way.

Sooo....when do we get the lights? I bet once the new PG golf course goes in , you will see lights on Foothills, but not until then.
Peace on Earth and goodwill to all men.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

A kudos to Ben Meisner for posting stories about organizations needing help. To me those show the real Prince George and the generosity that people in this community have. We often don't see the end result, nor do 99% of the people say thank you, but it feels good to give and I think its a value all of us should learn. On that note, on behalf of the 99% I say Thank You.

Izaak Smith - he did great - he is amazing - he is a role model for our youth and should be praised. I agree wholeheartedly with the above. However, I do believe that recognizing him with a "day" is a bit over the top, but that's just my opinion.

I do feel that using Terry Fox as a comparison is ridiculous - definitley not comparing apples to apples here.
Danny Williams for P.M!!
Well Bridge,I can't really find a lot of fault with your comments, except that given the options which are "Liberal" at best,I think I will go with the evil that I know,as opposed to the evil that I don't know!
At least for now.
What we are looking at with a "coalition" is an unproven King Ignatieff who no matter how he tries, still comes across as an opportunist, working for a party that seems to think democracy is a dirty word.
Just ask those members of the Liberal party who didn't get vote on who their leader would be.
The anger comes not so much from the person they crowned, but more from the lack of democracy in the manner it was done.
It is perceived as a final desperate grab for power by the Liberal "old boys club" at the deep end of the trough, because as we all should know by now,NOTHING drives those silent grey men at the top of the Liberal club to the brink faster than NOT being in power.
Then we throw in a whacko like Jack Layton and a bargain with the Bloc of unknown consequences and there is no way in hell I would touch this so-called "coalition solution" with a ten foot pole!
And that is what the majority of people in Canada are not prepared to take a chance on.
And thank god canadians still have the brains to look behind the scenes at the motivation driving this.
Cheers and Merry Christmas to all!
(to hell with political and religious correctness!)
Today is the 4th year anniversary of the shooting death of Kevin St. Arnaud....

That being said please take the time to let the ones you care about know it.

That being said...I care about you all and please have a safe holiday and a Merry Christmas.

:)
"What we are looking at with a "coalition" is an unproven King Ignatieff who no matter how he tries, still comes across as an opportunist, working for a party that seems to think democracy is a dirty word."

For a minute I had to do a double take. I wasn;t sure whether I wasn't reading Harper in there or whether I had just skimmed over it to fast.

But no, there is no Harper in that statemnent. I am sure that was a bit of an oversight so early in the morning.
"And thank god canadians still have the brains to look behind the scenes at the motivation driving this."

I am one Canadian that does have those brains. Except, that is kinda useless until we have another election. That is the only time when mine and almost everyone else's voices will be heard once more.

This time it was: "sorry folks, no majority for anyone; show us you can get along" ..... and off goes Harper thinking he has a majority. So what scheme did he have up his sleeve? Certainly was not going to be spending up to $30 billion this year, was it? Otherwise what happened would not have.
I am happy to see new banners along the highway lightposts. The colours are bright and cheerful, but I don't understand the image. What do the sillouettes of dancing or jumping people have to do with Prince George or winter? Does anyone else know?

Either way, it would have been nice to have a local artist design them with more of a 'winter' theme.
Well said gus!
I just realized...I hate them all equally!
The stimulus package should include twinning the highway from Kamloops to Prince George! It would be like the rest of the Province knew the interior existed!

And lets get extended EI benefits for those impacted by forestry. $3B for crappy car makers and nothing for forestry workers?

I think that we should be proud of Izaak. Not alot of local role models. I guess an NHL star would be better but we should take what we can get.

On a recent trip back to PG I got a chance to tour the new Sports Center. Now thats an impressive facility!

Still impressed about that stray dog story yesterday and the fact that someone dragged an old dog house out for the big fella!

Way to go Prince George.
Thunder, I'm not compareing what Terry Fox did to what Izzak Smith did I'm simply making a point that you dont have to "finish" or "win" something to be proud of what you have accomplished. You can still be honoured as role model for doing your best.
Vocer, you are right. Izzak Smith has an opportunity of a lifetime with his debut. I think it is reasonable to give this young man a day in the sun. Let's see what he does with this opportunity.

Maybe he will have the foresight to improve the performing arts in Prince George. We all know that Judy is going to retire one day. I wonder how big her head is now.
its tough, we need to vote for useless Dick, to keep the Liberals out.

Dion will forever remembered as the man who single handed killed a 140 year political party. Way to go, goof ball. I can see why Rob Rae, did a convienient sidestep out of the position. He knows that there is no way that the liberals are going to get in, thus why get smeared with that brush.

There is noway that the Bloc should be in a position of power, they are a local party not a national party. They don't care about anything other than stealing as much as they can from the rest of the country.

You really can not blame Jack, being a snake in the grass. Of course he would form a coalition. That is the only way a communist leader will have a chance to be in power.
Bang on He speaks!
Habs fan is right. Pat Bell, should take the timber rights away from no operating mills, and give it to the businesses that is going to do something with it to stimulate the economy.

Pat take it away when it is not worth anything. That is NOW.
I think Harper is having the right approach with calling on the experienced people to assist in putting together a budget. I think it is the right approach to anticipate a 30 billion dollar deficit.

These are different times. Everything we learned in the past fifty years do not apply in the finance world. However we know what works, we do need to spend our way out of this mess.

We need to make the most of our resources and don't give them away. Don't sell the oil in barrels, sell them the gas and diesel as finished products.

If China wants copper, than sell it in ingots not in concentrates. If the world wants our logs, sell them the lumber. If we are going to be the best place in the world, we need to start changing the way we market ourselves. We have the technology, we have the resources, the capital we have. Lets be more active in creating the secondary industries.

Good in theory, He Speaks, but we simply cannot compete globally in terms of labour costs. Plus you make the same mistake that many do in that we do not have a monopoly on trees or other resources. If the global market doesn't buy here, they'll go elsewhere. It's as simple as that.

Oh yeah, Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, thanks Ben and Elaine....
He speaks:"Dion will forever be remembered as the man who single handedly killed a 140 year political party."

The news of the death of the party are grossly exaggerated.

Remember when the whole entire caucus of the Progressive Conservative party could meet in the cab of a pickup truck?
Giving Dion too much credit... He didn't appoint himself leader...
Merry Christmas to all. Do have a good one. A very special Christmas greeting is in order for Gordo. i personally want to thank him for the Christmas gift. He has scooped $20 out of my pension to pay for his Carbon Tax Grab on heating oil. Thanks Gordo, do lift a couple for me over the holidays.

On another subject, is anyone else tired of hearing the CEO of Maple leaf Foods on TV telling us all how much they are doing to prevent a repeat of their recent problems? 5 or 6 times during a newscast is a bit much. If he cared so much why weren't these preventative measures put in before they had a problem. Always after the fact. I will not be buying any processed meat products in the near future.
I just watched the Izzack video on the Citizen. No wonder he didn't win!
"Don't sell the oil in barrels"

As long as we make the barrels in Canada I think we can sell it in barrels.

We also need to be in charge of the whole barrel recycling business.

The add-ons are where the money is. Just look at the $100 to $200 printers. $30 to $50 for a set of ink cartridges.
I agree that the Lilberal party should have the chance to vote on their leader. It would probably cost a lot less than $300 million, and the ballot would read:
1. Michael Ignatieff

2. Ignatieff, Michael

Pretty stupid to have an election when there's only one candidate.
Fiscal Policy refers to how government borrows, taxes and spends and is reflected in it's budget. Monetary Policy is how government controls the supply of money and is a far more effective means of promoting economic growth.

Unfortunately, Monetary Policy is decided and implemented quietly and discretely. This makes it difficult to take credit if you get it right. Fiscal Policy on the other hand is wide open to public participation and political manipulation.

So, guess what? Harper is forced to listen to the Opposition who want to spend Billions of dollars or face the reality that his government will be defeated. So, get ready for increased public spending. This is nothing more than an illusion, since government must pay for it by either taking the money from productive sectors of the economy. How about raising taxes or by borrowing the money? Or, deferring those tax increases to a later date.

Let's keep things in perspective. Running a deficit to maintain essential programs and fulfill critical obligations during difficult times is not the same as doing so in a futile attempt to spend our way out of a recession.

I commend Harper and Flaherty for inviting Canadian Business Leaders and Academics to their Economic Advisory Council. Their advice, experience, knowledge and response to a call for help is a huge relief to me. It will be much more difficult to criticize the recommendations of this group. I am confident in where we are headed.
Regarding the EI extension, I'm just curious if the proponents of it agree to having it available for EVERYONE who loses their job in these times or should it only be available for forestry workers? If it's the former, do you think there's enough money actually in the fund for that? If it's the latter, why?

The reason I ask is that every time you turn around, there are new announcements of hundreds of people losing their jobs at a time, across all sectors in the economy. It hardly seems fair that these people shouldn't be entitled to the same proposed benefits as forestry workers, however, I just wonder if there is enough dough to go around when you start talking about that many people.

I agree that they should provide some additional benefit, however, I wouldn't be so quick as to assume they will have all of the answers. There are LOADS of business leaders there out with great credentials, who don't appear to have a clue when it comes to economics or planning for the future. All you have to do is look at the big three as an example. I sure hope this doesn't turn into a "the private sector will save the say" type of initiative. Truth be told, the private sector has done their fair share in getting us into this mess in the first place.
This article here explains a lot IMO of the current financial crisis. Those people are playing with fire if this story has even an ounce of truth to it.

It looks like his ponzi scheme was a way to get a tax loss in the US and protect his clients investments from the collapse of the US dollar by holding the criminal gains in Israel where US law can't touch them. So the US judge allows Madeoff to use some of his stolen gains to post bail so he can live in house arrest in a stolen house?

This story has legs IMO.

Why would you ever call Jack Layton a communist? This is addressed to you He speakes. We have had a communist party in Canada and Jack Layton has never been a member. You are telling lies and you need to apologize.
So with all this taxpayer money (aka bailout dough) will the big three re-name their companies " The Peoples GM Ford Chrysler Auto Manufacturers"? After all it is the "peoples" money that bailed them out. Act like socialism. Label them socialist. Sure wish I could get a bailout.

Yes, remember it was the economic principles of the right that got us into this mess. That's why Goldspan apologized for his involvement.
