The Heroes Of McBride Should Receive Much Credit

By Ben Meisner

I think the people of the region owe it to ourselves to write a letter to Premier Gordon Campbell pointing out the heroic feat of a number of snowmobilers and towns people as well from the McBride area (with a smattering of others along the way) who took it upon themselves to rescue  two horses sentenced to death by starvation in the Renshaw area near McBride.

Think about it, setting about to dig a trench more than a kilometre long in seven feet of snow to allow you to get these two animals into a position where they would be able to walk down a trail to freedom from the icy grip of the mountains.

It takes a lot of guts and a lot of conviction to look at that job and say it’s possible and the people involved did just that.

As to the person or persons who left the animals in the region last fall, I am sure that it will play out; the public is not in a mood to accept this kind of conduct.

For all of you who took time to work on the project, you are men and women of steel. For all of you who took time to send along a donation to help in the payment of the rescue, thank you.

I am sure that the SPCA is sitting in wonderment at what has been accomplished in that small community, it is a lesson that we all can take with us.

Thank you all again for making Opinion250 a part of the entire rescue, I am confident the "thank yous" will not end here.

Finally to all of you, God bless you merry gentlemen let nothing you dismay, for Christ our lord and savior was born on Christmas Day....and oh yes... There is magic.

I’m Meisner

Cheers to all the rescuers ans donaters. Merry Christmas to all.
All this fuss over two hay burners. We display all this emotion for animals would we do the same for a neighbour in need?

Cheers
This is a story about how the human spirit can really help those so desperate in need. These heroes in McBride did not once think...."These are just two "hayburners", we'll just let them die up here on the mountain." They all banded together and came up with a miraculous rescue, one that won't be forgotten anytime soon. The world needs more heartwarming stories like this, and especially at Christmas time.

Ben & Elaine deserve a big THANK-YOU, for getting the word out to the public and keeping us up to date on the news. Merry Christmas and a very wonderful New Year to Ben, Elaine and all the rescuers from McBride and surrounding areas. You are the true meaning of Christmas....
Its an amazing story, with an amazing outcome. The people of McBride and surrounding area deserve much praise for it, as well as opinion250 for keeping us up to date, and having the facts straight. There we're several reports on other stations that did not do that. I hope that this story continues on to the conviction of who did this, I think many people want to know.
Ben says "There is magic."
There certainly is and people will jump in if they truly see the need. Sometimes it is hard to see those who need us. A little magic and perserverance sometines helps us to find one another.
How about the woman in Hamilton still alive after three days in the elements? That is a miracle and is magical.
If this was in the US they would have had CNN covering two helicopters carrying the horseys out. But we did it the old fashion way. Good on them.
CTV Edmonton station interviewed the owner tonight who claims he tried 3 times to get them out and is expecting to bring Sundance and Belle back home, but they have been seized by the spca. He is amazed that the group was able to bring them to safety.

Yet not once did he offer to go up and help til the animals were safe.

Then on another station its says charges are pending.
