Prince George, B.C. -   One of the founding members of Novak Contracting and Dunkley Lumber, Joe Novak has died.
He died yesterday in Prince George following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 65.
Joe Novak  (shown in photo at right, at the official opening of the Dunkley mill expansion) was known as the innovator in the family; he shied away from publicity but was well known in the woods industry as an innovator.
He designed many pieces that became uniform in the lumber industry. Fabricating companies say  he had the uncanny ability to design an item for the forest industry and then would take it to the fabricator to build.
One of his close friends said, he always had his mind on the design of some new product “You could go hunting with him and while you were waiting for the game to come, he might have a piece of paper out designing some new piece of equipment.”
Joe they say, challenged everyone to do their best and he had that uncanny ability to get the best out of everyone.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.
The date for services has not yet been announced.

My condolences to the Novak family. Mr. Novak was not only an innovator, but also a humanitarian. Him and his family are huge supporters of this community and have donated money and more importantly, time to the this community to make it a better place for everyone. We lost a big piece of this community today.
When I read the obits, I am amazed at the prevalance of people having terminal cancer...whether it be from environmental or genetic factors. As a person who has seen their parent slip away battleing this disease, my condolences go to the family. He is no longer in pain.
Yes cancer is all too common.
My condolences to the family/friends.
god bless him and their families.

Novaks are a great family
My condolences to the family. From what I could see they were great folks. We could use more Novaks and a few less Canfors.
