Prince George, B.C.- The Salvation Army has topped the $250 thousand dollar mark for the fundraising efforts for this year.
The Kettle campaign netted $227 thousand which is $2 thousand more than the goal set for this year. The Tree of Lights campaign was at $36 thousand on Christmas Eve and the final results have yet to be counted.
That makes for a $263 thousand dollar from the two campaigns!
Kettle campaign organizer Miranda Kynoch says while she isn’t certain of the budget set for this year, the fund raising should put the Salvation Army in a good position for 2009.

The huge increase in donations is great. I think a contributing factor might have been the cold weather. They had a lot of $5 bills... I think people weren't bothering with the pocket change this time around when you have people standing there in the -20 cold for the donations. Maybe people felt generous in a time of economic uncertainty... or maybe a combination of the two....
I think I slipped in $10 twice. Basically, the Sally Ann can do a lot more with $20 to help people in need than what the government can do with $200.

I am glad to see that people still remembered the less fortunate. God bless you all.
And the best part of it is it is tax free. Of course you had to pay tax on the money you earned to give a portion of it tax free. But I digress.
