Avalanche Threat Closes Highway 16 Between Terrace And Prince Rupert

Prince George, B.C.- The storm system that has moved through the province has created a serious avalanche threat on highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert.
Highway 16 is closed in both directions from the Agate Creek Bridge to Terrace (93.6 km) because of a high risk of avalanche. The highway will remain closed until at least noon Monday. Drive B.C. will update the situation at 10:00 Monday morning.
The rest of highway 16 from Terrace to Prince George is said to have compact snow with slippery sections. There is reduced visibililty along some sections from Terrace to Moricetown and drifting snow through to Smithers.
From Prince George to McBride there is reduced visibility from Purden to Crescent Spur, and there is a travel advisory in effect from Crescent Spur through to the junction with highway 5 at Tete Jaune Cache. Travel is not advised unless absolutely necessary
