Prince George, B.C. – It will be at least 5 p.m. before Highway 16 is reopened between Terrace and Prince Rupert.
Ministry of Transportation crews are in avalanche management mode.  "The crews have identified multiple locations which pose an avalanche threat to the highway" says Ministry Spokesperson Jeff Knight.  Crews  will try to trigger avalanches   and then have crews clean up the area.  "The highway will not reopen until it is safe to do so” adds Knight.
The highway was closed at Agate Creek bridge yesterday, cutting off the link between the two communities.  If all the  avalanche  work today  proves successful, the earliest the  highway would  reopen is 5 p.m.
Updates will be posted on www.drivebc.ca

better safe than sorry
Nice to see something being done BEFORE it happens!
That's rare.
