Am I alone in my thinking that phone books are an unnecessary cost and environmentally irresponsible to distribute to every phone number in today's age? Most people I know now either have numbers programmed into their phone, or search for phone numbers on the internet. I think that phonebooks should be reserved for those who request them.
Well if you don't like the phone book then give it to someone who wants it like us. We have to order a book every year. It is easier to look in the phone book than search the internet. Not too many people have business numbers programmed in their phone.
Or just go here.

The phone books are still necessary to many people. I use mine almost every day. I just wish they would stop trying to jazz it up with entertainment guides, coupons and advice on life. We just want the phone numbers and addresses, thanks. We also support the local Info Pages, even though they emulate the big guns, you gotta love'em 'cause they are #2 and trying harder!
metalman.
Ha,ha,ha-programmed numbers, look up on internet-you assume people read or have a computer.
People have called our place of employment looking for someone and then ask "do you have their number? Majority of time I have numbers available but what I want to say is - am I 411? it's in the book, look it up or please send me 95 cents because that what Telus would charge you.
Nowhere have I suggested that phone books should go the way of the dinosaurs, people who need them should be able to just request them. All I've suggested is that the majority of people these days don't seem to ever crack the binding, and most books I see have gone to waste, just thinking of a simple solution to avoid this. If you still use the books, good on ya! I think they should continue to be available as well.
Gotta get my 2 cents in. Metalman brought it up and I will take every opportunity to promote INFO PAGES over the BCTEL book.

Info Pages has all the phone numbers and postal codes for all listings. The text is larger and makes is easier to find listings (and easier to read - for those of us that are optically challenged, ie OLD), the columns of the pages are alphabetically indexed for faster lookups, INFOPAGES is physically smaller so takes up less space on my desk, it lists all businesses and individuals in our entire trading area instead of just Prince George.

INFO PAGES is a must have for anyone that travels our area for business reasons. The book take up less room in the vehicle and because of the smaller size it fits easily in the storage pocket in the drivers door of my pick up.

Give my BCTEL book to someone else...but I will give BCTEL one big praise - if you are looking for business advertising and don't know who to call - Yellow Pages is a must - where as most businesses are not advertising with Info Pages.

INFO PAGES RULES ! (your Welcome Deryl!)
I agree that phone books shouldn't be distributed to every listed number - they should also go to VOIP clients. Better order a couple more truckloads, the C02 emissions will go a long way towards making next winter warmer.
Info pages are not a complete listing ...
the phone books are fine ... keep our local pulp and paper industry going
