Prince George, B.C.- The investigation into a fatal crash on Highway 16 west near Bednesti in September has been concluded.
Fraser Fort George Traffic Services has released its findings on the cause of the crash which claimed the life of Ms. Anu Tirrul – Jones.
According to police, the investigation by the RCMP and the Coroner’s Service revealed that Ms Tirrul -Jones suffered a medical event which resulted in her Subaru drifting into the westbound lane. The nature of that medical event has not been released. There was no evidence to indicate she had tried to avoid a collision. A mechanical check of her vehicle could not find any mechanical fault that could have contributed to the crashes.
When her vehicle drifted into the westbound lane, Tirrul-Jones first struck a 1974 Volkswagen Westfalia van. Her vehicle then collided with a westbound 200 Ford Focus before colliding head on with a 1993 GMC 2500 pick up truck.
Tirrul-Jones was wearing her seatbelt, and the airbags in her vehicle did deploy, but she succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene. The two occupants of the pick up truck suffered serious but non life threatening injuries.
The investigation has concluded, and police say there is no enforcement or highway engineering review required.
