Prince George, B.C.- The Chief Animal Protection Officer with the BC SPCA has advised Frank Mackay, the owner of two horses rescued from the Renshaw alpine area near McBride, that the horses will not be returned to him.

Residents in McBride and district banded together before Christmas to rescue the horses who were facing certain death by starvation in an area north west of McBride. They were able to rescue the horses by digging a 1 kilometre long trench in seven feet of snow to enable to horses to walk out to safety.

The owner of the horses had left them in the area. If Mackay wants to challenge the order he can go to the courts to overturn the decision.

A decision as to whether Mackay will be charged under the criminal code remains in the hands of the SPCA.

Birgit Stutz, of the Falling Star Ranch who took part in the rescue says she is very happy for the horse’s sake that the two animals are not going to be returned to Frank Mackay. "I don’t believe he should get them back" she said. "I also hope that he is charged with leaving those horses, in the way he did."

The horses are recovering at a Prince George area ranch.

Well that is a good news story if there ever was one ! The people in McBride who headed this up are well known now, based on the media coverage of the rescue that I have seen across Canada. Good on you people !
Actually, I think they are from the Dunster area, are they not?
metalman.
I am glad he will not get his horses back.
If he asked for help originally it would have been so easy. It also would have saved those horses a lot of suffering.

I also hope he gets charged.

Awesome job to those who went to all the trouble to rescue the horses. They deserve something for their heroism. Great job.
Our spirit is alive and well.

Good work to those who took the time to get out there and help.
