Smithers, B.C.- The Province is pouring in over 11 million dollars to stimulate the economy and improve highway infrastructure in the Prince George-Omenica area.

PG-Omenica Liberal MLA John Rustad made the announcement in Smithers Monday afternoon.  Rustad says the 11.6 million dollar infrastructure investment will mean more jobs and support for the forest industry.

The Prince George-Omineca transportation infrastructure projects include:

  • replacing the Tatin Creek culvert on Highway 16, near Endako
  • widening the Fort Fraser Overhead on Highway 16
  • resurfacing the Necoslie River Bridge Deck
  • resurfacing the Stellako Overhead Deck
  • upgrading sections of Blackwater Road, near Vanderhoof
  • improving various side roads in the Vanderhoof area
  • continuing work on Germanson Landing Road

The projects are scheduled to be delivered this coming spring and summer.

The money for the improvements is part of $53 million announced by the Ministry of Transportation Monday to improve highway infrastructure.

This is just regular reinvestment in the infrastructure to maintain what is already there. Nothing new just government setting priorities with the budget and collecting the political capital for the expenditures.

IMO its a drop in the bucket and barely mets the yearly obligation they should be making anyways.
