Prince George, B.C. - RCMP say they don't want to speculate about the cause of an early morning blast that woke up residents in the South Fort George area of the city.  However, police aren't taking any chances and have called in the RCMP E Division Explosives Demolition Unit from Vancouver to help investigate.

Constable Gary Godwin says police and emergency crews were called to the 2600 block of Lillooet Street shortly before 3:00 a.m. today after an older model Toyota car exploded, scattering debris around the neighbourhood and as far away as three houses.  Godwin says the vehicle was parked on the street at the time of the blast.  There was no one in the area at the time of the explosion and there were no injuries.  Godwin says the 37 year-old owner of the vehicle was asleep at the time of the incident.

RCMP says the area has been sealed off and the Forensic Identification Unit is assisting with the investigation.  Godwin says police simply don't know what caused the blast and will wait to see what the EDU team can turn up.
