Vancouver, B.C. - Initiatives Prince George President and CEO Tim McEwan is attending the BC Economic Summit in Vancouver this week.  McEwan says it's important to get the message out about the north down south.

"We just think it's important to get the word out down here as much as we have up in the north.  You can't have progress on northern issues without, in essence, retailing them down here in the southern media as well."

McEwan appears to be making progress on that front, with a 30 minute appearance on The Bill Good Show heard on CKNW Radio as well as participating in a television interview with CTV.

"I've been trying to insert our views on the north and the need for infrastructure stimulus in education and research and development, particularly the bio-energy centre at UNBC that we discussed with (Federal Finance) Minister (Jim) Flaherty and the Premier a couple weeks back.  So, overall our messages are getting through, both in sessions from participants who are presenting here at the southern summit and also I've done a radio clip on CKNW for 30 minutes."

During his keynote address, Premier Gordon Campbell announced that the province intends to spend close to $14 billion in infrastructure spending over the next 3 years to create jobs and spur economic stability.

McEwan says he's hopeful that the north will see significant benefits from the infrastructure spending.
