Chlorine Dioxide Spill Still Under Investigation
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C. - Canfor Pulp says it still doesn't know the cause of a line failure that spilled 14 thousand litres of chlorine dioxide solution between its Intercon and PG Pulp Operations Sunday.
General Manager of Human Resources for the Pulp Partnership David Scott says the cleanup of the spill site is complete. Scott says the cold weather helped ensure that there was no environmental impact.
The line, which runs along the pipeline bridge between the pulp mills is still not up and running. Scott says it is having an effect on operations, but no employees have been impacted. On Sunday, Scott said the line that failed was new and was installed after a smaller chlorine dioxide leak earlier on.
Canfor Pulp says the investgation into the incident is ongoing and the results of the probe will be used to ensure that a similar situation doesn't happen again.
The B.C. Ministry of Environment is also investigating.
