Ya!!! thats money well spent or should we have a celebration of our brand new "Ghost Town"
naw, everyone go up there and stay in their hotels and eat in their restaurants.
I guess this money well spent came from the same cash cow that sent the mayor to China a few months back....It was a worthwhile trip as was stated in The Times, but nobody knows what happened over there....like a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed nothing but $#&%@*#%
If a person wasn't working in Mackenzie, what attractions would keep them there? Is it a community that is appealing enough that graduating students desire to stay there, rather than go elsewhere? Are services sufficient enough to provide everything required for the locals, such that there isn't a need to go to a neighbouring larger centre to do their shopping? Etc, etc...

If any answers to these questions come back with a negative tone, then Mackenzie will become a ghost town, similar to others in B.C. where industry left when the commodity produced was a money looser, and primary employment fell to zero.

That is the unfortunate scenario in focus for Mackenzie now. These last few puffs from a dying town, then a long wheeze (people leaving the place in droves, looking for employment elsewhere), and you will see houses boarded up, because there are no purchasers for the product.

I can't say for sure when, but there will be an upturn in the lumber market in the future, and the mills will open again, when companies see the potential for profit, and people will be going back to Mackenzie.

I'm finding it hard to stay positive. Somebody cheer me up.
Well guys.. heres something to cheer you up..We have only lost one buisness in town.. and that buisness was contemplating closing along time ago, they just figured now would be a good time... but we have 4 or 5 new buisnesses open up since the downturn. The citizens of Mackenzie are very loyal to their town.. we support each other and shop locally for everything that we can get in Mackenzie.. I for one want to say how proud I am of all the Mackenzie people for not being negative,we have lost our jobs but not our pride and honour..
We live in a very tight knit community.. when the going gets tough we stick together and do what we can to help each other out.
hope that cheers you up.. cuz it does me
Yay team Mackenzie!

"... I for one want to say how proud I am of all the Mackenzie people for not being negative,we have lost our jobs but not our pride and honour..."

Wow! If the roads are o.k. we may try to make it to Mackenzie and celebrate with you!

Cheers!
What's happening with the pulpmill now?

Has the maintenance crew figured out what to do with the chlorine dioxide on the site? I hope so.

And after that, then what ... any news??

It's good to hear that the people living in Mackenzie have a good sense of their future in that beautiful setting.
