Maybe this is the moment in which to share this election campaign advice, found today on Dave Shreck's "Strategic Thoughts" ...

You might remember Campbell's promise not to expand gambling. In 2000-2001 the government's take from gambling was $414 million; in that fiscal year its income from MSP premiums was $895 million. This year the Campbell government expected to receive $1.1 billion from gambling (up 265%) and $1.57 billion from MSP premiums (up 75%). Campbell forgot to tell you about his plans for gambling and MSP before the vote in 2001.

The same shell game will be played in the 2009 election as was played in 2001. One thing will be said during the campaign and something completely different will be said the day after.

.
Of course we all remember who brought casino gambling to B.C. in the first place, or do we?...and that after condemning gambling as a revolting anti social habit that leads to addiction and destruction of families.

Apparently gambling was expanded because the communities that had no gambling institutions complained that they were being treated unfairly and of course the increased revenue is very welcome too!

They demanded it and they got it.

Should the *shell game* not work during the next election one expects the new government to drastically reduce the expanded gambling back to the 2000-2001 level no matter how many casinos or slot machines have to be deactivated and how many employees have to be fired and compensation for lost business has to be paid. Then the flights from P.G. to Las Vegas and Reno will again be fully booked.

The MSP will be rolled back as well. Who needs properly funded health care?

Is it going to happen? Of course not.
Properly funded health care? Properly funded education? Whenever there is talk of cutbacks or deficits and where the gov. can pare back or slash funding these 2 are usually mentioned front and centre. To bad Gordo couldnt cut back on porkbarreling and corporate welfare. I just heard a radio ad by the Liberals saying that Gordo pulled the world out of the last economic down turn and is poised to do it again. Whatever those ad people are on I want some to ease the pain of listening to all the crap that is coming down on us.
Good thing I don't share the above views of British Columbia and its people. If I did I would have done something about it a long time ago - move to greener pastures where everything is perfect all the time.

During the nineties I was sorely tempted to move somewhere else, but even that era was survivable!

Nothing and nobody can ever get me to be as hateful, pessimistic and pi**ed off as some of the views that are being expressed on opinion250.

Sure things could be better - but they way they are now is way above average, measured by any standard.

Cheers!
"Properly funded health care? Properly funded education? Whenever there is talk of cutbacks or deficits and where the gov. can pare back or slash funding these 2 are usually mentioned front and centre."

Probably because these two items combined make up the bulk of the Provincial budget. Of course they are going to look here...

Gambling? It's a voluntary tax. Have you made your contribution today?
Why does Gordo hate BC taxpayers?
Why has Gordo foisted upon the taxpayers of this province the largest cost overruns in the history of BC?
Why does Gordo keep adding BILLIONS on the backs of taxpayers in this time of economic dire straits?
Thank you Ben for not putting a gag law on this blog as has Gordo and the Liberals in this election!
