Prince George, B.C. - The Air Quality Advisory  for Prince George will remain in effect until at least 9:30 tomorrow morning.

Based on the air quality data, the high levels are mainly due combustion emissions (smoke). Calm winds and clear conditions over the region resulted in pollutants accumulating in the air shed. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 36 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site at 3:00 pm and 25 µg/m3 at College Heights. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 59 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 56 µg/m3 at BCR and 57 µg/m3 at College Heights.

The Air Quality objective for PM2.5 is 25 µg/m3 for a 24 hour average.  Residents should be aware that advisories are only issued when the air quality objective is exceeded but that the majority of adverse health effects are due to long term exposure to fine particulate matter starting at levels well below 25 µg/m3

Residents are reminded that the City’s Clean Air Bylaw prohibits the use of wood-burning appliances, except for Sole Wood Burning Heat Users, and that open burning, including backyard burning and land clearing burning is banned during Air Quality Advisories. Please note that this advisory also prohibits recreational fires and street sweeping activities. Industry is asked to reduce emissions wherever possible during the air quality advisory.

this is sick, really sick.

unfortunately we still have people who deny that this matters

and the people who control the air don't seem to care at all

do any of these industries do anything to curb their operations at this time? No, the plumes keep coming and coming.

Health matters not.
While we are on the subject of air quality, wonder who pays for (Blowing Smoke up your donkey) ad on Opinion 250 home page.Don't need any more B.S. to pollute the air here.
Monitoring and reporting is one thing. When are those responsible actually going to do something to reduce the amount of pollution they create? I walk to work every day and can tell you that there are no improvements in our air quality.
Not long from now all the air will be nice and clean.
Of course the unemployment lines will be long and dirty.
No one is taking responsibility for our poisonous air. Relocate the pulp mills. They have been pollutting the valley for much too long.
