Bring on the Cargo Flights
By Ben Meisner
Later today we will see the final touches announced for the Prince George Regional Airport. The only item lacking remains the large cargo aircraft that will be needed in order to make the whole operation work.
If you look up in the sky each and every day, you will see jet streams being created by jumbo jets passing overhead.
What we need to do is to convince them that they should land in our city to re fuel, because we can offer them a quicker turnaround time, competitive costs on fuel and a runway that is rarely closed to traffic on a yearly basis.
We are not going to see an immediate arrival of the big jets, the world economy has put the brakes on that, but it would be nice to see at least some charter aircraft or some cargo aircraft begin arriving at the strip.
Until such time as we land our first jumbo jet at the Prince George airport the sceptics will be able to say the whole exercise was a waste of money.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

The airstrip alone cost almost $40 million. By the time we are ready to truly compete with a place like Anchorage for all of the grandiose plans they have made...it will be at least triple that in investments (mostly with taxpayer dollars).
Please don't insult our intelligence by suggesting that the first jumbo jet to land will be enough to keep the skeptics at bay, or intimate that somehow one or two planes per month will be enough to see a return on investment on this white elephant.
