Spontanious Financial Combustion?
Funny, that was my immediate initial thought as well, northman. We certainly are a jaded bunch...but who wouldn't be after all the accounting frauds, ponzi schemes, government lies and broken promises, environmental disasters, RCMP cover-ups, etc. etc. over the past decade or so?

Pretty sad that our corporations and governments have created an environment where there is little else to presume other than a criminal or fradulent motivation at the heart of every major event. It may well turn out to be an "honest" fire caused by bad wiring or a smoldering cigarette in a bedsheet...but the climate we live in now makes everything a little more suspicious.
financial crisis or not . . . i would never accuse anyone of doing a criminal act that i have no knowledge about - especially on a public forum.
Too bad! I hope it is back up and going as soon as possible! We never drive to Vancouver without spending a night at the 108 on the way down and again on the way back!
Who's accusing? Northman was simply posing a tongue-in-cheek question.

The question mark is a very powerful punctuation mark, turning a potential statement of libel into a mere query.

I'm with you diplomat, 108 Resort is a great place to hang out...ride mountain bikes along the lakeshore and golf a round or two.
Very sad news!
We have stayed there a lot over the years, and last summer we really noticed the decline in pretty much everything, including the resturant.
It seems to have been going slowly downhill for the last few years.
A very tough business to survive in during tough economic times.
Condolences to the owners.
For the record i wasnt implying that it was deliberate. Its acts like that that are a burden to us all by driving up insurance costs.
"expect to have more information by the noon hour"??

It's four hours past noon; surely a few more details have emerged by now?
Its a shame...the resort has a long history
They even opened the pool for us mid winter one time we had a multi day retreat there some 20 years ago. A nice secluded spot. I suspect that no matter what the cause of the fire or the amount of insurance they might be able to access, they will not rebuild. I do not think it is/was the gold mine the owners may have thought it would become.
