Prince George, B.C. - The home of the spirit bear has made it to the five finalists for the title of Hockeyville Canada in this year’s Kraft Hockeyville contest.

Terrace made the list with the help of votes, and with a presentation package that lists the reasons it is Hockeyville as:

  • One valley with many nations. Terrace is the tournament centre for the North-west bringing folks from far and wide.
  • As the hub of our region, Terrace connects Neighbouring First Nations; The Tsimshian of Kitselas and Kitsumkalum and the Nisga'a of Terrace and Nass Valley.
  • Our backyard is an outdoor mecca of landscapes, wildlife and adventure and are the backdrop to a highly enthusiastic hockey environment.
  • We believe in environmental sustainability and as a community are working towards many green initiatives.
  • The Terrace Sportsplex was just completed providing a second sheet of ice, function rooms and child care. Clean and green technology have been used in the design. This dream became a reality after 15 years of      planning, fundraising, designing and building.
  • Diversity is a corner stone of our community. As the hub of northern B.C., we represent a variety of people from First Nations to the four corners of the globe.
  • We love hockey! Our community is rallying behind this campaign because we truly believe Terrace is Hockeyville. Take a walk down any street to see our community spirit come alive through our national sport.
  • If you came to Terrace and weren't a hockey fan, you most likely are now.
The Premier has come out in favour of Terrace  winning the contest.  Gordon Campbell has released a video, urging other British Columbians to vote for Terrace when the opportunity to vote is made available on Saturday.

Terrace is already a winner, picking up $25 thousand dollars just for making it to the top five. That money will have to be spent on arena improvements, as would the $100 thousand dollar grand prize.

You can cast a ballot, or as many ballots as you like, as of 8 p.m. Saturday through to March 4th at 8:59 p.m. You can vote online at www.cbcsports.ca/hockeyville   by calling 1-866-533-8066 or by texting Vote terrace to 222111.

Go Terrace!
metalman.
Go for it Terrace, you can do it. We can't, were kind of handicapped, we have this team called the Cougars. But you have a honest chance at it.
Stop the spending. Where do you think this money comes from?
If Campbell voted for it, I won't. And what does "first nations" have to do with it all???
My sentiments exactly Imorg...there must be an election coming.
Why are First Nations always singled out?
This would benefit everyone and it should not be treated as anything else.
It sure as hell should not be treated as an election lever for Campbell!
It is about people...all people, not different factions of people.
I will vote for Terrace, but Campbell should keep his face out of it!
I'm a little surprised by the "hub of the North" comment. I always thought PG was the hub!!

I was at the Cougars game on Saturday.....hockeville PG I think not. It was the sea of Green!!

I always thought PG was a hockey town. Not sure what people spend their money on these days but it doesn't seem to be at CN Centre.
