Prince George, B.C.- Yet another RCMP officer’s story is different from the statement giving following the death of Robert Dziekanski, to that given under oath at the Braidwood inquiry.
On the stand today, officer Millington testified he deployed the first taser shot because Dziekanski “wasn’t listening to what officers were saying to him”. He said he had tried hand signals to get Dziekanski to calm down, then said the words “passport, papers” followed by miming writing on his hand. He said Dziekanski grabbed a stapler and was holding it high (above his waist) when he started coming at the officers.
When shown the video, Dziekanski’s hands are not visible, and while Millington pointed out when Dziekanski was moving towards them, that movement was very difficult to determine on the video.
Millington agreed his statement was incorrect when he said the officers had to wrestle Dziekanski to the ground, when the video clearly shows Dziekanski withdrawing, screaming and falling to the ground during the first taser shot which lasted 6 seconds.   Millington also said his statement was incorrect when he indicated he had to taser Dziekanski the second time to try to get him to drop to the ground as the video clearly shows Dziekanski was already down.
Millington said he remembered hitting Dziekanski 4 times with the taser, but agreed if there was information indicating he had used the taser five times, that information would be correct.
The Braidwood Inquiry into the death of the Polish immigrant  at Vancouver International airport in October of 2007 continues this afternoon.

Remember what your parents said "one lie covers another" very obvious that the RCMP are trying to right a wrong.
Didn't any of these quacks watch the video before testifying. They can't even get their lies right. I think the rcmp are way past their best before date. They problems are way beyond a few bad apples.
If these four culls were enrolled in dunce school, without a doubt they would end up being the bottom four.
These guys are representative of the RCMP here in BC. By these mounties thoughts, actions which is displayed in full view, it states, we are in big trouble here in BC. We must return to our own Provincial Police, so as to get back a handle, and control of our policing.
These cowboys are harming and killing far too many ordinary British Columbians
with out proper cause, they are out of control.
Totally agree. Now I see they have killed another person in Duncan. It seems like a weekly occurence now!

Remember how in the old days of the RCMP, members used to pride themselves on an entire career lived without having to unholster a weapon? It was all about negotiation, patience, outlasting your prey. The story might just read wrong, but it sounds like those guys in Duncan waited about as long as a coffee-break before going into the trailer (where they knew there was a distressed man, possibly armed). Instead of retreating to the perimeter and spending a few hours talking some sense into the guy...it's a quick attempt to taser and then another 9mm round to the chest.

This new generation of RCMP is an utter failure; they just can't enjoy work it seems without using one of their fancy killing machines.
The longer it goes on the more embarrassing it gets...hopefully it will be over soon.

Again my condolences to the distraught mother who must be totally in disbelief of what is going on.

Poland is watching and so are the European media which aired the video which shows exactly second by second what really happened.

We must remember that the ability for people to recollect events after they have played a part in them, especially a part under high excitement, varies considerably and is far less accurate than many think, especially as the courts often seem to think.

On top of that, what one remembers afterwards may very well agree with what they perceived at the time, even though the original perceptions were wrong.

A camera can bring a more objective view to that initial perception that caused them to act and the recollection which continues to send messages to themselves that they did the right thing.

This may have absolutely nothing to do with lying. What we might be seeing is a norm of the human ability to assess a situation under stress and then recollect it under close examination.

Your remark is bang on and reminds me of an experience I had many years ago while living in a camp in K.....t. A fist fight erupted in the cafeteria and ended up outside on the entrance platform and stairs. It was late at night.

Two RCMP officers showed up and stood by while the fighting raged on. Finally one of the guys couldn't get back on his feet anymore. The RCMP stepped in, helped him to his feet and stood the two guys facing each other. There was blood all over the place. Then they were told to shake hands and promise to keep the peace from now on or else they would be taken to the lockup to face charges.

They shook hands and the crowd applauded. It was awesome, unforgettable and so was the respect for the RCMP.

End of the story. They also kept the peace thereafter.

Anybody else watcing this travesty live?

"I don't remember writing this report". What a crock of s**t! This Millington guy is a real piece of work. He only killed a guy...God forbid he should take the time to "remember" a few details of that day in his life.
The problem is that there is no alternative in place right now. Thus the country relies on the establishment. It is the establishment that has to look at themselves to fix the wrong.

In General, the actions to use the taser initilally is correct. Repetitive use was likely not neccessary. If the officer was not in control of himself, and was becoming trigger happy, than the other officers should have done something about it. I am sure the initial intent was not to kill him, but to only subdue him. Thus it must have also been known that repetitive use of the taser will kill.

is there a few bad apples. Well with the number of apples out there, sure any organization will have a few of them. The problem lies with the process of reprimanding or investigating the apples.

Overall, the establishment is aware of the flaws, and it is going to take a good strong apple to ensure that the line is being towed all the way to the fresh apples.

It truly is a difficult situation when the foundation of the the organization is at risk because of the lack of confidence the public has in it. The RCMP fundamentally still does a lot of good, but it needs to find an effective way to deal with ones that probably should not be RCMP's.
should place the blame on the government that lowered the standards to become a RCMP officer. That happened about 35 years ago.
downnotout, exactly right.the rcmp is not what it used to be.they had everyones respect and the officers were proud to wear the uniform.i guess they should weed out the bad apples and the good police will get back the respect they deserve from the public.by the way this inquiry is going it looks like the four bad apples wil stay in the force.
History is the truth as seen by the victor.
The RCMP members are still walking around and the victim is not. Therefore, the history that will be recorded will be that he resisted, was tazed and died through no fault of the attending members.
more sweepings under the rug.
The RCMP officer who fired the Taser weapon at Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski testified at a public inquiry this morning that he shot him a second time because the first shot didn't appear to have an impact.

So the subject flailing around was not enough to indicate the the device WAS functioning?
The constables in question, should just admit they were wrong and killed an innocent man. End of story. Instead, they have tried to drag the dead man's image through the mud portraying him as a derelict drunk with a bad heart.

I feel sorry for this man's mother, who had that motherly instinct knowing that something was terribly wrong, and was not listened to by anyone.

Most of all I feel ashamed as a Canadian that this man came here to what he thought was a land of opportunity, a land where dreams come true, a land of tolerance for immigrants of all colours, and yet he died never experiencing any of the great things this country offers.
The RCMP mishandled the situation with tragic results.

Canadians do NOT have to feel ashamed! We invited Robert to live in Canada.

Canadians are feeling sorrow and anger at what was done do him.

I have not met anyone who is not totally appalled with the entire tragedy which occurred at Vancouver Airport.

Now, in my opinion, the RCMP is mishandling the inquiry as well.

Yet another missed opportunity to re-humanize the image of the just, reliable and fair enforcer of the law.

Nobody is infallible: no Pope, no RCMP, no human being.

It wasnt the police who killed this man, it was the taser. They arent meant to kill. Get some better tasers.
They are the very best and most expensive latest model available - still, some people die due to being tasered.

Tasered 5 times by 4 morons! Fire them and the YVR boneheads.
Everyone is pretty much on the money in all these posts and it is not hard to understand why people feel the way they do.
I agree with Howrd_B_Stern...it does make you feel ashamed to be a canadian considering the conduct of these cops on the witness stand.
Their reasoning behind tazering Dzeikanski for a total of 26 seconds at 50 thousand volts is disgusting.
Actually,it is downright scary.
I find myself watching this farce even though it makes me sick to my stomach to think the these 4 cops are going to walk.
I am sure of it and they won't be the first as we all know.
It is pretty clear listening to each of them contradict their original statements that they have been coached, probably by the old boys club at the top.
I see no other reason for them to change their statements as they are doing.
Are they all stupid and can't remember what they said?
Did they not have copies of their original statements?
Somebody got to them it would seem, and myself and a lot of other people will never view the RCMP quite the same way again.
That is also an embarrassment as a canadian.
God bless you all for saying what we are all thinking. I don't know how to cure the mentality the RCMP now portrays, but I too, as a Canadian, am sickened and shocked by the absolute sickeness of mind that obviously is the creed of the RCMP we are now stuck with to "uphold the justice" in the land we all love and cherish.
What about the staff at YVR? Shouldn't they be held somewhat accountable for their actions, or lack thereof? The guy spent needless hours trying to find help, only to be ignored.
As for the tasering incident, I have a 2 sided coin opinion on it. On one side, taser use is meant to subdue someone for a few seconds to gain control of the situation and the person. It is a "less lethal" option and in so many other cases, has served it's purpose. In this case, I think it was too quick to be used and he was tasered obviously way too many times, considering he could have been subdued after the first hit. My question is this however:(other side of the coin) When officers of authority are pointing a weapon at you, wouldn't you automatically put your hands up, stop moving and stop talking? I know I sure would. I am not placing blame...I just wonder...maybe I wouldn't, being in the same position...who knows. Hopefully I will never have to find out.
After the first hit with the tazer,Dziekanski went down after stumbling a few steps.
Are we to believe that 4 of the RCMP's finest could not subdue this guy when he was down and rolling on the floor?
4 trained cops?
Are the RCMP proud of these winners?
That is the biggest issue with this disgusting mess...that 4 cops could not take down one guy, even when he was down and probably disoriented from the tazer shock?
The RCMP should also be embarrassed, but it appears they are not.
Instead, they are trying to change their stories and put themselves in a better light.
Instead of working in their favour,it is making them look even worse.
It is also making them look like pathological lairs.
And I also agree with what Juror is saying about the staff at YVR.
They completely dropped the ball and they must be held accountale for it as well.
I sincerely hope that Dziekanski's mother includes them in the cival suit because I am betting she will win that one hands down!
And the RCMP will have no one to blame but themselves and their arrogant attitude of superiority.
The unfortunate part for the general public is that these 4 wonderboys will most likely still be cops!
The RCMP always get their man.

Nobody really thinks the RCMP or the govt will ever let that motto go by the way side do they?
for a bit of justice, these 4 should be
dishonourably discharged from the force,
(as in the armed forces)and never allowed to wear a uniform again.
I hope the citizens of Poland know that the people of Canada are also disgusted of what happened that day.
MILLINGTON' OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE, CONDONED BY WALLY OPPAL

1. Said RD was combative even as he complied with gesture to move away from luggage. He admits that early statement was false.

5 Told cop investigator that RD was kicking at them. Video reveals only the involuntary effects from the murder weapon.

6. Said 6th deployment didn't involve contact with RD. Video reveals constant effects from weapon.

7. Said RD swung stapler wildly. Admits that video proves otherwise.

8. Said RD was shouting when cops arrived. Admits that video proves otherwise.

9. Said RD continued to walk towards cops AFTER being tasered. Admits that video proves otherwise.

10. Said RD didn't fall until tasered twice. Admits that video proves otherwise.

11. Said RD didn't look apprehensive when taser was pointed at him. Admits that he couldn't have seen him because video proves he wasn't facing him.
The cops should have handled this one better. I think they must be getting bad legal advice.
I hate pigs. I would go to the mob to fix my problems fuck that
Without the video recording you can just imagine how this tasering incident would have come down. No wonder the RCMP initially tried to keep the video of this incident from the public for up to a year. Only after the legal system retrived it and made it public was the real story uncovered.
The 4 RCMP members who's initial stories differ so greatly from actual recorded events have brought into question the credibility of the testimony of all RCMP members taking the stand to testify.
These 4 members should to the right thing and resign as being a member of the RCMP is certainly not the line of work they should be involved in.
